Finished the regular season undefeated!! J has been crushing it at center!! This has been such a great season of coaching and an incredible brotherhood forming!! IRISH FOOTBALL IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST💪🏽💚☘️. So great to have my Uncle Bobby and Aunt Rhonda and Grandma Mona coming to cheer us on and show their support!! by @erinestepdmd

We are so incredibly proud of Jacoby’s leadership! He’s the starting center on the 7th/8th grade team this season. His coach told me he was the only 7th grader picked to be first string on offense and defense (it’s strange seeing him as one of the smaller kids on the field)! And then when we showed up for the first game, Coach had chosen him as a captain! He is ABSOLUTELY loving football this year and really thriving, “Mom, I can’t wait to play Sheldon High School football with these boys! I just wanted to pop on here and thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for all of your kind words, cards, texts, dinners, flowers, treats and especially prayers! Each and every one of them has made me feel very special. And I apologize if I haven’t said that personally.

At this point, the doctors are attributing the clots to the seven hour car ride back from Reno at the beginning of August. Scottie and I hard charged it and didn’t stop the entire way back. Good reminder to take breaks and get up and walk around. The CT found clots in both lungs, the largest being a blockage of the right pulmonary artery. And now I am on Eliquis, which has been obviously a lifesaver. I will be on this for the next six months and we will reevaluate the lungs at a future date. I will also have a full work-up with hematology to rule out any underlying clotting disorders. This has been a big eye-opener for me. I’ve learned that I need to take better care of myself and de-stress as much as I can. I’m learning to say, “no 🥴”. I need to eat healthier and prioritize exercise. My family and friends have surrounded me with so much love. I’d like to be here a while longer 🙏🩷 by @erinestepdmd

My favorite picture of our #22 smashing the ball for a triple in his final at bat of our 60 game season!! What a wild and awesome experience 12U WV Elite season was. Jacoby really came into his own at the plate. He put in a lot of hard work and it paid off! The team went 44-13-3. We have phenomenal coaches who pour their heart and soul into these boys and we are forever grateful to them! Also a big shoutout to @ianumlandt for all of his lessons and working on the mental game as well as physical.

We did have an unfortunate and heartbreaking setback that was sad for all of us but especially J. He started complaining of pain in June in his right arm. After PT and weeks of rest with no improvement, Slocum took an xray of his shoulder and he was formally diagnosed with “little league arm”. It is essentially a separation of the growth plate in his shoulder that is common in boys of this age who are pitchers. It prevented him from playing any defense in the last several tournaments and of course, no pitching. He was devastated to not be out there for his team, but remained an incredibly positive influence in the dugout! We are on a strict, no throwing or swimming regiment for the next three months to let it heal. But I know my boy, he will come back stronger than ever. We will do everything in our power to help him along the way with his rehab. ”A minor setback paves the way for a major comeback “.

We could never have imagined how great our Willamette Valley Elite Baseball journey would have been! We are now family and have gained lifelong friends 🩵🩵

As is the case far too often these days, parents chirping on the other side earlier in the game caused our dugout to get fired up!! After a dad taunted Jacoby when he got injured taking a pickoff attempt to his privates, he decided actions speak louder than words and quieted the noise real quick with this AWESOME grand slam to win the game and head to the championship last evening! My heart was so full from all the coaches, players and parent support! Love our Elite fam 🩵🩵🩵 @wvelite_baseball @perfectgame_nw by @erinestepdmd

love this picture for so many reasons. That goofy look on Jacoby’s face really tells the tale of how far this team has come. Most of these boys have played together for three and four years now! Our amazing friend and instructor to my boys, @ianumlandt , said it best in a sweet message he sent to the boys a few weeks ago before a tournament, “Baseball is unique in this sense that it really punishes people with extreme emotions, the ones who get really high on the highs and really lows on the lows. The best players and teams learn to remain constantly steady throughout.” It was a really unique experience for me this weekend watching my younger son compete with his team on the field right next to my older son competing with his team, both for the championship. I see baseball in a totally different light now than I did when Jacoby was younger. The evolution for myself as a parent has come along way. Baseball is a slow burn, a constant grind. It’s a process that you have to trust in. You will exhaust yourself if you get overly emotional over every play, every game or even every tournament. Our 12-year-old boys absolutely tanked their first game in pool play the day before but none of us were concerned because we know that they have the fortitude to come back better and stronger, and that those losses teach them more than any win ever will. I will be eternally grateful for baseball and this period in our lives. Most importantly, I’m grateful for the coaches who shape who my boys are becoming. When I look at Jacoby‘s face in this picture, if you didn’t see his teammates next to him, you wouldn’t really know if they won or lost. To him it was another day, competing with all his heart, with his favorite buddies…his brotherhood. by @erinestepdmd

It happened for real, not in practice or scrimmage, J Man hit his first homerun over the fence!! This team! They were down 2-7 at the bottom of the last inning. Two teammates before him hit homeruns (with runners on). Score was 6-7. Two outs. They sub in their ace pitcher, who is now a full grown man, and is known to throw absolute gas!! He’s really intimidated Jacoby the past two years. But yesterday J knew he could meet that power with his power! Tied the game to send into extra innings.

He sprained his L5 vertebrae a month ago, sidelining him for a time. He worked through rehab with my amazing friend, Kylee Alexander, and came back stronger than ever! Pitched great on the bump. Went 6 for 7 at the plate this weekend. That’s the thing I love most about this sport! There are a lot of highs and a lot of lows and those results in a lot of opportunities to be able to develop resilience and come back stronger than ever! So grateful for the sport of baseball! If someone asked me about my athlete, I’d say he loves baseball.

But if they ask me on a deeper level…

I’d say he’s the one who keeps chasing the game even on the days that are hard

He is the one learning how to fail, how to grow, and how to stand back up again

Because the field isn’t just teaching him how to play.

It’s teaching him who to become. by @erinestepdmd
