N I N G A L O O
Days of beach, sand, countless whales breaching (at dawn and dusk you can hear them slapping the water with their fins, and wafts of their singing on a couple of very still mornings), snorkelling, sandcastles, sun, and at the end of it all, a sensational stay at Bullara Station (complete with a cattle muster - horses, choppers, bikes and buggies). An (offline) adventure with the family. Needed. Loved. Can’t wait to repeat. taken in Winderabandi Point, Ningaloo Station by @erinllarkin

New Zealand: Kumeu River 2025 Release⁣
⁣
It’s not uncommon for the best wines around the world to be in short supply; namely, most of them are eloquent expressions of site and place, necessarily limited by the bounds of the vineyards in which the fruit is grown. And so it goes for the Kumeu River Chardonnays.⁣

Australia, Barossa: Delicacy and Surety of Expression – Alkina⁣
⁣
Each year, as I taste through the Alkina vineyard’s newest iterations, I quietly consider the possibility that I was unnecessarily overawed last year in my assessment of the wines. Each year, the wines show me that, in fact, I remain conservative in my assessment of them, in deference to my personal preference for their house style. The wines are overwhelmingly elegant, medium-bodied at most—though most are on the lighter end of that—and enduringly expressive of the small place in which they are grown. ⁣

Australia, Margaret River: Leeuwin Art Series Retrospective⁣
⁣
While I have tasted many of the vintages before, no two tastings are ever the same, given the variability of wine over time as it evolves in bottle. The tasting also provides valuable insight into the way the new wine looks in the lineup. Context is absolutely everything in wine, and there is no better way to understand the nature of a wine than to see it alongside its older iterations: two feet in the present, two eyes on the future.⁣

Australia: Where and Why, over How and What – New Releases August 2026	⁣
⁣
Regional transparency is one of the clearest markers of quality. It is not the only marker, but in most cases, if the wine clearly tastes like where it is from, that generally leads to good things. From one of the more memorable wines tasted for this release: "Rose garden on a wet day too. It's flinty. This is a beauty. It is quite dark on the palate yet light, with graphite and cold tea leaves to close. Like all the wines from this producer, this is complex and intriguing.⁣

Though @emmafarrelly are I are quite partial to glasses of wine together, it isn’t usually in such photogenic circumstances. We’ll be drinking real life Pinot Noir together on the 29th of August at the @statebuildings A few tickets left available still… I’m definitely looking forward to looping in @psrichebourg and @jsgrounds to the fun. 📸 @fieldscape.co my new favourite photographer 🍷 by @erinllarkin

I’m really proud to be a Co-Chair for the @internationalwinechallenge , hosted for the very first time IN REGION. As times change, so must our traditions adapt. This year, the AusPac entries, comprising Australia, New Zealand, Japan, China and South Africa will be judged in ADELAIDE. Panels made up of the very best, most experienced Australian judges, alongside international buyers, somms and judges. I’m really excited that this show is being judged here - we’ve got so much to offer visiting judges and participants - the eyes will be on us. And I say GOOD. Happy to field any questions you might have. Get in touch. taken in Adelaide, South Australia by @erinllarkin

Margaret River’s Pair’d Festival @pairdfestival announced its 2026 program earlier this month, and the ambition has only sharpened. Across four days from Thursday 19 to Sunday 22 November, more than 40 wine led events will spill across beaches, forests, caves and vineyards, pulling together a genuinely unlikely cast: Dave Pynt returning home from Burnt Ends in Singapore, Austrian DJ duo turned winemakers Kruder & Dorfmeister playing their only Australian show in a decade, and a two Michelin star chef from London matched with Margaret River’s Vasse Felix.

At the centre of it all is The Grand Tasting at Howard Park Wines, the one event of the year where the region’s most prestigious producers gather on a single lawn. This year it includes Museum Masterclasses hosted by Erin Larkin @erinllarkin as well as Nick Ryan in the Howard Park Wine Chapel, tracing some of the oldest and rarest wines ever made in Margaret River.

Host Erin Larkin does not review wine the way most people review wine. She came to it through fashion and fine art, writes full time for The Wine Advocate, and dresses for a tasting the same way she talks about a great bottle, with control and ease. Ahead of her Museum Masterclasses at Pair’d this November, we caught up with her to talk texture, honesty, and the one thing about Western Australia that no other wine region on earth can copy. taken in Margaret River by @erinllarkin

The International Pinot Noir Tasting returns, bringing all the charm, tension & obsession that only Pinot can inspire.

“Pinot Noir does not find everyone. But when it finds you, that is rather it.”

First, the blind tasting: 18 wines from 5 countries, poured without labels & judged on what is in the glass.

Guided by Phillip Rich, Erin Larkin& Julian Grounds, our expert panel leads the room through Pinot’s many moods.

Then, to Post for a long table lunch, where the conversation continues & the Pinot keeps flowing.

Saturday 29 August, 11AM — 4PM. Postal Hall becomes a gathering place for the Pinot faithful & curious alike.

A little elusive, deeply expressive & never short on personality. Reserve your place through the link in bio. by @erinllarkin
