Brooke Eby (1988 - 2026) was a gifted communicator who taught the general public about specific barriers to access she faced - in turn teaching about barriers that anyone with a similar condition might face.

In the image above, Brooke is responding to a nurse who has asked a specific question about how much she can feel in her limbs - Brooke’s answer will help that nurse‘s patients for their entire career. By sharing her story on social media, potentially millions of people learned things they otherwise might not have known about ALS and similar diseases. This type of advocacy, I would argue, is one of the most effective tools we have in helping not currently disabled people understand barriers to access. And she had fun and looked good doing it 😊.

Brooke changed the world by sharing her experiences so openly, and her presence is already missed. Thank you for everything, @limpbroozkit by @erinryanhey

The best part of Ed Markey’s victory party was an unexpected tie! Finally meeting @pawlbologna and many other Markeyverse friends in person - six years later (!) was the best. But I wasn’t expecting to hear such an incredible speech from @tylerdhack of the @christopherstreetproject . Tyler spoke about the many trans kids all over the country who are used to going to bed on election nights wondering what rights would be taken away by morning. When they would go to bed on MA primary night, they could know that Massachusetts voters chose the person who stood up for them. The person who stayed in their corner. It was such a hopeful speech, and I’m so proud to have played a small part in @edmarkey ‘s reelection. by @erinryanhey
