It's been the very best Sunday. I take back every rude thing I've ever said about Alaska. (But I mean...Alaska kind of deserved it.)

It turns out I've developed a new habit of not shutting my phone screen off before I put my phone in my pocket. This makes for some interesting discoveries. Like the video I apparently shared of a guy talking about his beard, and I think something went wrong when he shaved it, but I don't know what it was because I never actually watched the video.

So hopefully this clears things up if anyone was wondering.

Have a great weekend you guys, and maybe shut your screens off when you're done with them. Or don't, I don't care. by @erinwithoutpretense

The look I'm going for here is a combination of April in the far north and trying to be something I'm not. With strong undertones of regret and foreboding. I'll explain.

April in the far north signals to children that it is time to give up the habit of sleeping. After a long, dark winter, we are now gaining several minutes of sunlight each day. So instead of waking up between 8 and 9 a.m. like they do all winter, these fools be gettin' up at like 5:30 now. This is very painful for me. I've never been a fan of waking up.

Even so, in addition to my children no longer wishing to sleep, I've decided once again that in order to be "a good wife," I must get up with my husband at whatever unnatural hour he gets up for work (even though I can almost never go to bed before midnight.) I do this from time to time. It never sticks, but here we are again. So anyway, I got up with him this morning. Maybe it was like 5:00am? I don't even know. I think I subconsciously didn't want to be traumatized by knowing.

And then right after I got up, my four-year-old appeared in the kitchen, sleepy but determined that it was time to get up because it was light outside. He made me play Sorry with him on the floor, while my eyes poured tears and my body's yawning mechanism tried continuously to rend my jaw from my face, like some kind of auto-torture feature that can't be shut off.

Now it's 9am. The rest of the kids have been up for awhile and I still haven't dragged myself off the couch to start my day. We're watching Bluey to really drive home the fact that I'm not living up to expectations.

There are many, many things on my to-do list today, and they are showing no signs of doing themselves. It's up to me and my teary eyes to get sh** done. I regret choices I made last night, choices I made this morning, and choices that were taken from me by the sun, that have led to my current situation.

Surely another episode of Bluey will bring the answers I need.

This is what we call "outside doin' stuff."

We've got a high of 37 F today. It's glorious, after what has apparently been the coldest winter on record for this region (according to the US National Weather Service Fairbanks Alaska), but seemed like a piece of cake to us in our new on-grid house. 😅

Still, it sure is nice to be outside. 😎
