Artist and former art teacher based in the Bavarian Forest, Germany

Usually I tend to be drawn to the mountains in search for a motive worth painting. However there are some exceptions.

Just like with the Puzta in Hungary or in this case the Lüneburg Heath I‘m fascinated by landscapes that were born from historical land-use. They bear so much value for conservation, function as a living museum as well as a source of inspiration for artists.

However as a handicapped painter access to the Heath is really hard. There is just no way to enter the area if one isn’t able to walk or climb on a horse-carriage.

Two years ago I had the fortune to be granted exceptional access to the forest roads with my car for a few days and managed to paint on large canvases.
But an overly ambitious Park Ranger couldn’t get over the fact that a handicapped artist like me had been granted permission that way.

So this time I had to put a lot of time into looking for views from where I could paint legally. These were at parking lots or small spaces beside the main roads. Thus I managed to do only small paintings from inside my car.

Typical flowers of a forest edge from the Bavarian Forest. Since I am not able to get to them on my own, my daughter brings me flowers from her hiking adventures.

I have the honor to be part of the art exhibition „Heima(r)t“ in Bodenmais. My oilpaintings show aspects of my personal perception of home. There is the landscape of Birkenhaid a so called lost village in Bohemia, Czech Republic. This is where my father was born and the home he and his family were chased from after the end of WWll. Then there is the portrait of my bohemian grandma who had an incredible singing voice. And lastly since I enjoy depicting wildflowers, there is a series of wildflowers that occur in the Bavarian Forest.
You can visit the exhibition until January 20th. I‘d be happy if you came by :)
