I’ve always had a soft spot for this time of year. The colder mornings, colourful leaves scattered across the pavement, finally getting to wear all those layers again, and the Scottish wind doing its absolute best to ruin every outfit selfie I take… Lots of flavoursome broths (including gravy, hence pic 14), creamy cheeses… like, A LOT of cheese.

I think I like autumn because it makes me a little more curious. Maybe it’s having more time indoors, or maybe it’s simply that I stop thinking about all the places I could be when the sun is out and start paying more attention to what’s going on around me and in my own little world.

I always feel like this is the time of year when we start picking up old hobbies again, or convincing ourselves that this is finally the winter we learn to knit… Whether we actually stick with it is another question, but I do think there’s something lovely about having things you do simply because you enjoy them. No need to be good at it (can we please normalise this, btw?), no need to make anything of it, and just doing it for the sake of being curious and creative.

Working in a creative(ish) field has made me realise something slightly ironic… I don’t always make enough time to be creative for myself. You’d think I’d have this figured out by now!?

So, consider this little photo dump a reminder that not everything needs to be work, and not everything I make needs to have a purpose. Sometimes, it’s nice to create just because you feel like it.

Anyway… photo walk, anyone? Edinburgh’s looking pretty and I need an excuse to take 400 photos of leaves.☺️🤎 by @ernestanorr

A little pocket of green, warmth and history in the middle of Edinburgh.

🌿 @rbgedinburgh
📍 Inverleith, Edinburgh

The Palm Houses have been part of the Botanics since 1834, with the Victorian dome added in 1858. The newer Palm House is also the tallest traditional Palm House in the world, standing almost 22 metres high.

After five years of restoration, thousands of panes of glass have been replaced and the historic ironwork and sandstone carefully brought back to life. The two houses have now been reunited as one huge space, and it’s quite something to see.

There will also be various events and experiences taking place here, with the next being a day long Forest Bathing & Aromatherapy experience. You can find all the details on the RBGE website.

I could have happily stayed for hours, wandering between the palms and taking everything in. It feels like such a lovely new way to experience the Botanics, and somewhere I’ll definitely be going back to. 🌿

Wagyu on an afternoon tea stand? I’ll admit, that got my attention.

🍣 @sushisamba.edinburgh
📍 City Centre, Edinburgh

I’ve had the afternoon tea here before, but the menu changes seasonally, so there’s always a good reason to go back. I love that they don’t take the traditional afternoon tea formula too seriously either. Japanese, Brazilian and Peruvian flavours, delicious combinations and lots of little surprises along the way.

This time we had…

🍞 A5 Wagyu Tataki Bun
Ponzu onion jam, crispy ito
🧀 Spicy Sesame & Cheddar Brioche
Sweet soy glaze
🐟 Black Cod Croquette
Caviar, pickled daikon
🫛 Green Bean Tempura
Black truffle aioli
🍣 Samba Edinburgh Roll
Whisky cured salmon, snow crab, avocado, oshinko, tempura flakes, whisky mayo
🍣 Yellowtail Tetsu
Crispy rice, avocado, garlic miso, spicy mayo

And for the sweet tooth…

🍑 Peach & Vanilla Choux
🍓 Strawberry Panna Cotta
Yuzu gel
🍍 Pineapple & Passionfruit Pavlova
🍋 Lemon & Poppy Seed Scones
Raspberry jam, clotted cream (they were incredible!)

It’s one of my favourite afternoon teas in Edinburgh. I love how creative it is without losing the fun of sitting down and eating far too many lovely little things. You get unlimited tea and coffee, and if you’re having that sort of afternoon, you can add a glass of Champagne too. No judgement from me.

I’d recommend it for a special occasion, a long overdue catch up, or even a day date if you’re looking for an excuse to dress up and make an afternoon of it. Just don’t come expecting your usual plate of sandwiches.

You’re also ten floors up in @wedinburgh with panoramic views across Edinburgh, which makes the whole thing feel quite special.✨

Edinburgh, we need to talk about this rotisserie chicken! 👀

🍗 @thekeelsonleith
📍 The Shore, Edinburgh

The Keelson is a new Scottish boozer on The Shore, with rotisserie cooking at the heart of what they do. They’re all about grass-fed meat, seasonal produce and working with local farms, with the menu changing depending on what’s good.

The space is gorgeous too. It’s warm and slightly moody, with loads of wood and all these little details that give it that proper old school pub feeling, while still feeling fresh and modern.

We started with…

🐟 Smoked haddock fritters & tartare sauce
Wow, these disappeared off the plate. Needed more, but we were saving ourselves for the main event.

🦑 Fried in-shore squid & tomato aioli
Absolutely delicious. The batter was so light and that tomato aioli was incredible. To be honest, all the sauces we had were!

Then came the main event…

🍗 Rotisserie herb-fed free-range chicken
We went for the whole chicken (you can get half as well, but it was 4 of us) and chose the chimichurri and gravy to go with it. The chicken was SO juicy, beautifully roasted and packed with flavour. The chimichurri gave it that fresh little kick, while the gravy… well, obviously we poured it over everything. You can also choose from sauces like peri peri or peppercorn, so there’s plenty of room to mix it up depending on what you fancy.

🥔 Jersey Royals
🥗 House salad
Can’t go wrong with that!

Then, somehow, we still had room for…

🍚 Vanilla rice pudding & raspberries
So creamy and delicious. Not too heavy, just the perfect wee dessert to share. We were tempted to order another one… which was becoming a bit of a theme… 😂

And please don’t sleep on the cocktails. I had the dirty margarita and it was divine.

I really like what they’re doing here. It feels like a right good addition to The Shore, and I can already see myself popping in for a drink and ending up ordering half the menu again. CAN’T WAIT by the way!

AD| There’s a magic in finding a place that slowly becomes yours... where the people you meet, the friendships you form, the little everyday moments feel as if they were meant for you…

For me, it was in the beautiful streets of Edinburgh, the cafes where I spent hours behind my camera, the city’s little spots that spark my creativity and the freedom to explore my passions. The connections I’ve made and the support I’ve felt along the way have made this city feel alive with possibility.

Moving somewhere new can be daunting, but it can also be the beginning of something extraordinary. Scotland became more than a city - it became a home, a community, and a place where I could grow, create, and do what I love, surrounded by people who inspire and support me.

Scotland is my home now.

A special thank you to @jac.sd for capturing Edinburgh moments, and to the friends who were part of this and helped bring it to life.🤍

I’ve been thinking lately about how much I love summer.

There’s something about this time of year that makes life feel a little more generous. There’s always somewhere to go, something to celebrate, a picnic that somehow turns into an entire afternoon… Even music sounds better in summer. I don’t know what it is. Put on the same song in November and it’s just a song. Play it outside on a warm evening and suddenly you’re the main character in a film you didn’t know you were starring in.

And the produce. My god, the produce. I was back in my homeland recently and spent an afternoon wandering around my grandma’s garden and greenhouse. Picking things straight from the vine, eating tomatoes that actually taste like tomatoes, getting dirt under my fingernails and probably standing in the same spot for far too long just because the sun felt nice on my face.

And I had one of those very dramatic little thoughts where you suddenly think… maybe this is it? Maybe we’ve made life far more complicated than it needs to be. Maybe happiness is just being warm, surrounded by a bit of green, with a really good tomato in your hand?

Anyway, I’m loving life lately. Feeling very grateful for all the little things that make it feel full. A good tomato certainly helps. A groovy tune does too.🌞🍅🪩 taken in Lithuania by @ernestanorr

ad| One of the best things about freelancing is that I’m not tied to a desk… although sometimes I do wish finding one was a little easier.😅

What I’ve definitely learned is that finding somewhere to work when you’re constantly on the move can be a bit of a mission. It’s not just about finding a nice coffee spot. I need somewhere I can actually sit down, get my laptop out and know the Wi-Fi isn’t going to betray me halfway through the day. And ideally somewhere with a plug, because somehow my laptop battery always decides to give up at the worst possible moment.

I’ve been using @swurf.free for this lately and it’s honestly made those in between bits of my day so much easier. I can have a look at what’s around me and find somewhere that actually works for me. 💻 ☕️

And I won’t lie, I do love having an excuse to work somewhere different. I’m definitely more inspired when I’m not staring at the same four walls all day.

Feeling very lucky that this is what I get to call work.💫

The hardest decision was what not to order!

🍽️ @lennoxedinburgh
📍 West End, Edinburgh

As soon as I checked the menu at Lennox, I had a feeling this was going to be a very good addition to Edinburgh’s food scene.

The hardest part? Deciding what to order because honestly, I wanted everything! The menu is full of exciting flavour combinations and clever twists, so I’d definitely recommend going with a few people and sharing your way through it.

We started with the snacks…

🥖 House baked milk bread, garlic butter
Just get it. The bread was beautiful and the garlic butter goes with so many of the small plates.

🥓 Devils on horseback, liver parfait, maple
Rich, full of flavour and such a good little bite to start with.

Small plates

🥗 Burrata, jalapeño gazpacho, hazelnut
Really fresh and lovely with the bread, although I’d probably try another small plate next time.

🥩 Aged beef tartare, burger sauce, parmesan, shoestring fries
My favourite small plate. Great textures, a lovely tang and I’d order this again in a heartbeat.

🐟 Fish finger, katsu curry, gribiche
A very intriguing and fishy little number. Not something I’d usually choose, but I loved it!

Mains

🍝 Gnocchetti, pistachio pesto, stracciatella
A lovely fresh pasta dish, perfect for summer!

🍋 Linguine, clams, chilli, garlic & lemon
The winner for me. Fresh in-house made pasta, beautiful flavours and a dish I’d 100% order again. Don’t miss this one!

🐠 Sea bass, shellfish sauce, pickled rhubarb, fennel
Such a lovely surprise. The fish was beautifully cooked, but that shellfish sauce was sensational.

Dessert (because obviously we had to 😂)

🍌 Smoked banana, custard tart, rum & raisin, candied pecan
A really interesting dessert with so many lovely and rich flavours.

☕ Hazelnut tiramisu, praline, coffee, dulce de leche
I’m usually a classic tiramisu girl, but this was such a beautiful twist.

With so much on the menu, sharing is definitely the way to go. Don’t miss the pasta, and keep an eye out for their Sunday roast… because I think I need to return for further “research” 😅

Coffee + dancing before midday? I’m in 🤝

🎛️ @commonground.edi
📍 Uplands Roast, The Meadows

Sunshine, coffee in hand, good music playing and everyone casually dancing at 10am like this is the most normal thing in the world (which, to be honest… maybe it should be???? 😂)

I’d never been to a coffee rave and I absolutely loved the whole vibe. They usually happen on weekend mornings at different cafes around Edinburgh, and it’s such a fun way to start the day!!!

They play house, DnB and garage (proper bops), the crowd was so lovely, and it had that rare feeling where everyone just looks genuinely happy to be there. Also, I love that it’s family friendly. The little ones were absolutely thriving and, I’m not going to lie, some of them definitely had better moves than me!🕺

A very wholesome way to get your steps in before lunchtime… because apparently my version of cardio is now dancing around with a coffee in my hand.😎

10/10, would boogie again!!!

Definitely check these guys out! 🔊

How is it even possible that a lash lift can last 6+ weeks?!🤯

👁️ @cosmeticsbycaral at @combined.edinburgh
📍 Canonmills, Edinburgh

It’s not my first time getting a lash lift, but every time I get one I’m reminded how much I love having one less thing to think about in the morning. And oh my, does Caral know what she’s doing.

I’m naturally someone who likes to keep things quite simple. I love makeup, skincare and trying new things, but I’ve definitely reached the stage where I feel the most like myself when I’m not wearing loads.

I think we all go through that journey of trying different trends and figuring out what actually works for us. For me, it’s never been about changing how I look, it’s just little things that make me feel a bit more put together. And a lash lift is exactly that. Nothing dramatic, just my eyes looking a little more awake (which I desperately need most mornings 😂)

Also, Caral is absolutely amazing - she always greets you with the biggest smile and it genuinely feels like you’re just catching up with one of your girls. At the same time, she’s incredibly talented at what she does, so you know you’re in safe hands from the moment you lie down. You leave her chair feeling a little more polished, relaxed, and obviously feeling like a princess (no better feeling, am I right?) 👑💅

Especially in summer, when there are a million plans and less time to get ready, being able to skip mascara and not worry about sweaty, smudged eyes is such a win. And yes… being able to rub my tired eyes without worrying about mascara getting everywhere is a small but very important life upgrade - I’M HERE FOR IT!🥰

So many beautiful people to celebrate, so many lovely places to discover, sooooo many moments that I’ll be thinking about for a long time.

I’m definitely running on fumes and could happily sleep for about two weeks… but every late night, early morning and busy day was 100% worth it.

ad| Not just about glasses👀

I kept putting off getting my eyes checked without really thinking much of it, but going in made me realise how much I had actually misunderstood what an eye test involves.

It is not just about whether your prescription has changed. There are detailed scans and checks that look at the overall health of your eyes too, which I did not expect.

Everyone in the store was genuinely so helpful and made the whole process feel really comfortable from start to finish.

I also found myself thinking about how they support children too, with specialist frames for different needs, which I had not really considered before.

There are loads of beautiful frames to choose from, and having that much variety actually made it feel easier rather than overwhelming.

Even things like hearing checks being in the same place made it feel more complete than I expected, like everything is just taken care of together.

It just made me realise how easy it is to put something like this off, even when it is actually quite straightforward once you do it.

So glad I finally went - thank you @specsavers !
