Atlanta showed up early for Outkast and Waffle House.

The occasion was the launch of a limited-edition merch collaboration between two brands that have spent decades becoming shorthand for Atlanta.

By 10 a.m., the line wrapped around the block. People brought folding chairs, swapped Outkast stories and talked about Freaknik, old Atlanta and the first time they heard “Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik.” Some had been waiting since before sunrise.

And then there was the Cadillac.

Heather King left her spot in line to get a picture with John Williams’ 1972 Cadillac Coupe DeVille and offered to pay for his parking. Hours later, Williams returned the gesture by paying for all of her merch.

As King put it: “The Southern hospitality is real here.”

Hung out with some old @phillies Wednesday at the @braves Wild Card game. Larry Bowa and Charlie Manuel.
Both legends and great guys. But we hope to whip those smiles off tonight.
Go Braves.

Sad movie confession.
When The Godfather Part III came out in 1990, I went to the theater to see it.

There was only one problem.

I had never seen The Godfather.
I had never seen The Godfather Part II.

So there I was, watching the final chapter of one of the greatest film sagas ever made, with absolutely no idea who these people were, what they had done to each other, or why I was supposed to care.

Michael Corleone? Just some stressed-out older guy to me.

I made up for it, but it still embarrasses me. by @erniesuggs

🎧 THE BLACK MUSIC CANON — WEEK 5
Southern Crossroads
This week, we head South.
Four albums. Four distinct voices. Four different ways of telling us where they’re from.
🎙️ Otis Redding — Otis Blue
🍽️ Goodie Mob — Soul Food
🎙️ Anthony Hamilton — Comin’ from Where I’m From
👑 Rapsody — EVE
Otis Redding gave Southern soul its ache, grit and fire.
Goodie Mob made Atlanta — its neighborhoods, anxieties, politics and possibilities — impossible to ignore as Southern hip-hop demanded its place in the conversation.
Anthony Hamilton reached back to gospel and soul to create music that sounds lived-in, weathered and unmistakably Southern.
And Rapsody carries that North Carolina tradition forward with lyricism rooted in Black history, womanhood, pride and place.
Macon. Atlanta. Charlotte. Snow Hill.
Soul. Hip-hop. Gospel. Blues.
Different generations, but connected by something deeper: the South as home, memory, struggle and source.
Because the South didn’t just have something to say.
It had its own way of saying it. @rapsody https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4LaWncgpuXRVYc8jGhb3gV?si=T7U0VXAeRJaohpB5Ww5-sQ&utm_source=copy-link&pi=5gNDxlDhR6Wg7 by @erniesuggs

Kelly Rowland wants Atlanta to remember something about her.

Before growing up in Houston, Texas. Before Destiny’s Child. Before the Grammy Awards, movies and more than three decades in the spotlight, there was Atlanta.

On Saturday, she’ll return to headline the 35th annual AIDS Walk Atlanta Music Festival and 5K Run at Piedmont Park, bringing attention to a cause she’s advocated for for nearly two decades.

“I care about my community. I care about what happens,” Rowland said. “It’s just continuing to get the message out. Encouraging everyone to protect themselves and look after each other as a community, period.”

Read more about Rowland’s Atlanta roots, her longtime HIV advocacy and why she says these conversations still matter at the link in @itsuatl’s bio.

A “Crawford Long baby,” as she puts it, Rowland spent her early childhood here before her mother’s job took the family to Texas.

“Atlanta’s fed me more than Atlanta knows. Anytime I’m there, I’m humbled. I’m grateful because it’s the city that bore me,” she said. “The taste and flavor and flyness of Atlanta, I have a piece of that in my bones. I take that very seriously.” by @erniesuggs

@darrylmbell had one question for our very own @najjap: were you even alive when “A Different World” premiered in 1987? She wasn’t. Plenty of the show’s fans weren’t either, and they still found their way to Hillman.

@iamjasmineguy only heard @alijahkai at the “A Different World” table read and knew something sounded familiar. One question later, it all clicked.

Comment “Different World” and we’ll DM you the full conversation.
