Allow me to introduce myself…

I’m Emily Rooker, a multidisciplinary artist.

I am a vocalist, producer, songwriter and recording artist. I attended Berklee College of Music for Songwriting and Vocal Performance, but I actually dropped out and finished my undergraduate degree 9 years later at the University of Memphis, where I studied poetry and playwriting.

My proudest achievement as an artist was writing, directing, producing and starring in my original rock opera The Long Goodbye. Along with a cast and crew of 30 of the most amazing artists you can imagine, we independently created an original piece of avant-garde, experimental musical theater and debuted it to sold-out crowds after a successful $15,000 crowdfunding campaign. On days where I feel sad, I remember I did that and then I’m like yeah no one can tell me a thing.

I am currently developing a new musical, a new album, a super fun site-specific project for which I will be traveling to Lisbon, Portugal and working as a for-hire composer and songwriter. I have recently launched a Substack called Sad Girl Enterprises, which details the life and times of myself as an independent artist. There, I will post bi-weekly updates, my cry log, works in progress, art and music I’m loving, process notes, and other fun stuff. Some of it will be public, and other posts will be for paying subscribers only. You can choose to support my work as an independent artist by subscribing there for just $8 a month. by @erookstagram

Now presenting… the featured performers for the Oct 20th reading presentation of RATS 🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀

Rats is a new original musical podcast, and on Oct 20, guests can come to @bvoexp on Mud Island to enjoy a one of a kind reading experience.

Actors will perform a script in hand reading of Rats, and guests will be invited to choose their own aventure — to stay and watch the performers, to explore BVO while the audio from the performance is amplified throughout the space, or some combination of both. In the world of Rats, anything goes 🎊

Rats tells the story of three roommates living in the near distant future who, through an act of accidental magic, become rats and must navigate the rat underworld. by @erookstagram

$I have spent my entire adult life here in Memphis and I will not allow anyone who hasn’t spent at least a month in the south to comment on what goes on here ❌ The most radical, coolest, visionary, and generous people are all here 🫶🏻 Memphis is beyond special and has given so much to me. I only hope to give a fraction of that back to the city I love ❤️ by @erookstagram$
