POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

A rare moment….. caught in the wild wearing Adidas instead of Pumas. What parallel world was this!!?

Ok, the real story. This was shortly after some of my photography work was featured in an art exhibition in New York. The event was sponsored by Adidas.

SEPT 14: STAX VS MOTOWN!!

Every September, in honor of Otis Redding’s birthday, we pay tribute to our cousins to the South: Stax/Volt Records, who are home to fellow soul giants like Isaac Hayes, Wilson Pickett, Rufus & Carla Thomas, Booker T & The M.G’s, Sam & Dave, The Emotions, & more. It’s a Memphis vs Detroit Soul Showdown, and we can’t wait to see y’all on the dance floor!

The world is saturated with commentary, opinions, tutorials, hot takes, and people appointing themselves as authorities. Information is everywhere. Access is everywhere. People have gotten very good at talking about art, analyzing art, marketing art, imitating aesthetics, and regurgitating it for clout.

But genuine artistic risk, vulnerability, originality, sacrifice, and lived experience feel increasingly rare.

Super late w this post, but a couple weeks ago I hosted a 1 v1 Breakin Battle called Sound & Motion as part of the Santa Fe Springs Art Fest. I just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who pulled up to support.

Energy was super dope, competition was tough & the 7 guests invited to battle brought their A game as well. But in the end, @bboythesis ended up taking the win for the $1,000 cash prize (provided by the city of Santa Fe Springs). 💰💰💰

Shout out to team,
Judges - @bboystuntman @munekineco @itscrissyb
DJ’s - @johngibby @h.delacruize & of course the one & only, my favorite lil person in the world, @djmillimilz
The host w the most - @funkymaya1 who made the trip all the way from Mexico City, Gracias bro! 👊🏼✨

Big thank you to @cityofsfs & @djprolifix for having us & trusting me to host, showcase & represent the art of breakin at this year’s Santa Fe Springs Art Fest.

Lastly, I did want to announce my MVP of the event. Bboy @xpoz93 stood out to me w his incredible energy, character, and battle tactics! In collaboration w @munekineco , this means Xpoz earns an invitation to battle at the @matador_jam later this year. Big up and much respect @xpoz93

As you can imagine, in the midst of running the event, stage managing, chasing around a 5-year-old superstar DJ, lol, and DJing myself, I still managed to snap these images. Of course, I wasn’t able to capture every moment, so forgive me. taken in Heritage Park by @ervinarana
