When should a new mom feel "NORMAL" again?

SO many women wonder when exactly they can expect to feel like themselves again after having a baby?

💯 But there is no ONE timeline that can apply to each of us.

Because how you adjust after baby, is determined by MANY factors including, the type of pregnancy, the type of birth, your overall lifestyle, your history, stressors and the amount of support available.

⏰ In an otherwise healthy pregnancy and recovery, you can generally expect things to fall pretty close to the time period your doctors gives. But there is still a range.

👉You might be cleared to “resume” normal activity at about 6-8 weeks. But not always. For some, it takes a little longer.

While most moms report feeling much better by then, they can still experience some discomfort in the pelvic area or feel like internal organs are still adjusting. And emotionally, after the first couple months you might feel the overwhelm peak...as your supports decline, maternity leave ends and your baby's development continues. You might even show signs of depression or anxiety AFTER you passed the initial screening from your provider 😟

👉By 6 months, the majority of moms report feeling a lot more like themselves again and are generally returning to normal.

But during this time moms are STILL susceptible to perinatal mood and anxiety disorders like postpartum depression (up to 1 year!)

Plus, if you’ve ignored symptoms or haven’t received any intervention…issues may linger.😣

✋So it’s important to know the range of normal in order to set realistic expectations and find continued support if you aren’t exactly where you thought you’d be. The first YEAR after birth is a transition period.❤️

How far apart between pregnancies are your little ones?🤰🏻

✨First, let me just say, choosing when to have a baby will always be a personal decision - the guidelines here aren’t something everyone can follow…because hello, 👋life happens! 🤷🏻‍♀️ (My boys were 14 months apart between pregnancies)

But here’s why (and when) the 18-24 month wait between pregnancies (not just birthdays) is recommended 👇👇

🤰🏻Physical Recovery

Research suggests this gap to reduce the risk of pregnancy complications and other health problems for mothers and babies. Because pregnancies within six months of a live birth are associated with an increased risk of things like premature birth, placental abruption, congenital disorders and maternal anemia.

Also, healing from one pregnancy to the next requires time — remember pregnancy and breastfeeding can cause postnatal depletion where your nutrient stores run low.

🧠Mental and Emotional Health

It’s also critical to remember that mothers are still be susceptible to mood and anxiety disorders that first year after birth, and without proper treatment it can extend beyond.
Not caring for your mental health needs the first time around can see it lingering into the next time.

*The risks and recommendations don’t apply to couples who have had a miscarriage. As always, please discuss birth spacing and conception plans with your provider.

Sources: JAMA Internal Medicine, American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology

👉Remember there’s no perfect time to have a baby — so weighing the benefits and risks is a decision between you, your family and provider!

It’s my birthday 🥳 and i had to blow out my candles too! 🎂 Because what do you mean I’m 44?! 🫠

The last decade has been a whirlwind for sure with lots of challenges caring for myself while parenting three boys from the baby/toddlers to preteen/teens.

I’ve had much growth and learning over the years through the struggles…only wish this version of me could meet that version of me. So I could share with younger me what I shouldn’t have stressed about, and what actually mattered most, for me included.

And while I mainly focused on early postpartum topics here, I’ve been out of that season for years and want to include more of this current season I’m living too, (that has been shaped by those early experiences) - so more to come there!

Thank you for following along! 🙏❤️

I’d love to hear what season of motherhood survival you find yourself in too —whether with younger or growing kids! Because it’s a journey for sure!! ⬇️

#ad One of my favorite parenting hacks lately has been giving myself permission to stop overthinking the cleanup. 🙌

For years, there were certain meals I’d hesitate to make because I knew I’d be the one dealing with the aftermath. These days, if my family is craving the cheesy pasta, or extra-saucy recipes, I don’t stress as much.

🧽Dawn Powerwash has become one of those products that quietly makes everyday life easier. I spend LESS time thinking about the cleanup and more time enjoying the meal (and actually sitting down while it’s still warm). 🙌

What do you dread more, the meal planning, cooking or managing the cleanup stress? 🫠

#ad #ZevoPartner Tell me you’re in summer mode without telling me you’re in summer mode?? 🌞👀

For me, it’s when the doors are constantly opening, fruit is always on the counter, and I’m doing a little more to stay ahead of the things that come with warmer weather.

🪰One thing I grabbed to be ready…the Zevo Flying Insect Traps. They provide 24/7 protection to lure, trap and kill 99.9% of trapped bugs, and Zevo Traps are an easy, everyday way to keep your space feeling fresh and comfortable.

I grabbed mine during a recent Walmart run, and you can grab them on Rollback, making it an easy add-to-cart item for your next shopping trip. @zevoinsect @Walmart

What’s YOUR first sign that summer has officially arrived? ☀️👇
