Liansh is an experimental SVG typeface that explores Latin letters as continuous gestures rather than isolated forms. Inspired by the structural logic of Chinese cursive calligraphy, the project allows letters to connect through shared strokes, where ligatures emerge naturally as writing flows. Instead of existing as separate units placed side by side, letters grow from one another and form an interconnected visual rhythm. The typeface is developed across three levels, each exploring a different balance between readability and visual integration. The first remains relatively stable and readable, while the second and third gradually introduce more shared strokes, ligatures, and fluid connections between letters. As an SVG typeface, Liansh also allows the stroke weight to change dynamically. A contrast version further emphasizes the tension between thick and thin strokes, highlighting the movement and energy of writing. The project also experiments with vertical ligatures, extending connections beyond the conventional horizontal flow. Through shared strokes and extended ligatures, Liansh reconsiders the boundaries between letters, words, and images, treating writing not only as language, but also as a form of visual movement. Clemens by @patrickometto, EsadType 2024-26 Clemens is a Venetian post-gothic type family occupying the transitional space between Rotunda and early humanist letterforms, rooted in 15th-century Venice, when typographic models were still in formation and their formal logics intersected before consolidating into distinct categories. The family’s structure emerges from this tension: vertical strokes carry the compact density of the rotunda tradition, while round forms expand toward emerging roman proportions, creating a zone of tension that defines the overall texture of the text. Optimised for 8–12 pt, Clemens maintains structural balance and reading continuity at small sizes, with contrast becoming progressively more visible as scale and weight increase. The family spans from ExtraLight to ExtraBold with corresponding Italics and dedicated Poster styles.  The name refers to Clemente Patavino, the earliest Italian printer active in Venice, situating the project within that formative moment when typographic models had yet to crystallise into stable categories. Tac by @sidharth.jaishankar, EsadType 2024–26 Tac is an informal editorial family for Latin and Tamil, drawn from expressive hand-lettering and unconventional writing tools. Inspired by Tamil book covers and magazines from the 1960s-80s that used a lot of hand-drawn elements and were put together using techniques like paste-up composition, it goes back to this tradition of playfulness and expressivity. It derives its letterforms from extensive writing explorations focused on speed and rhythm, using a folded pen, a tool that incentivises quick and energetic shapes. These shapes are interpreted in different ways in the Title, Header, and Text sub-families that make up Tac's hierarchy. Kedije by @gabintraverse, EsadType 2024–26 [EN] Kedije /kə di ʒə/ is an open-source typographic and programmatic system that links voice input to the speaker’s pitch, speed, and vocal volume. Through variable font technology, the individual’s prosody is embodied in dynamic and unique typographic forms. From very small and condensed to extremely wide and bold. It produces a typeface that sits at the intersection of Elzevir styles, sign painting, and wooden type. Inspired by Pierre Di Sciullo’s “Kouije” (2005), Kedije employs voice-input technology to map each word precisely, enabling a rich and faithful visual representation of speech. The aim of this project is to develop a new communication system that works both digitally (applicable to emails and text messages) and in physical form, for transcribing and subtitling theatrical or cinematic dialogue. The ambition is that it may also provide added accessibility and comfort for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals. Kedije also exists as a standalone typeface, suitable for a wide range of practical and aesthetic applications. To read more about the project : https://esadtype.esad-amiens.fr/kedije/ by @esadtype_amiens

Hekla Italic (Wip) 🌬️ Hekla is an italic typeface currently in progress based on the cancellaresca’s calligraphic models. Sharp, angular and following the wind, Hekla takes her name from the heroine of the novel “Miss Islande” wrote by Auður Ava Ólafsdóttir. Through her stiff aesthetic, Hekla seeks to reflect the wildness of the landscape where her name comes from. A lot of things to improve but looking forward to designing her a roman companion soon ☁️ • • • • • #typography#typographie#type#typedesign#italic by @esadtype_amiens

Drawbot Translation Code. DTC. with Frederik Berlaen ÉsadType First introduction to Python coding. We were trying to draw a letter through Drawbot. I wanted to recreate a translation weight distribution, which I've managed to do by first drawing a Bézier path within 7 nodes range, then duplicating it, translating it, and joining them. The UI might need to be more... readable though. Nevertheless, with this program, I was able to design a whole typeface that I will show you soon. #typo #typography #type #typographydesign #typedrawn #typedesign #drawbot #python by @esadtype_amiens
Over the last few weeks Esadtype first-year students went to the @ecole_estienne in Paris to discover the precious typographic archives of the school's library 📖 The visits guided by Sébastien Morlighem give them access to outstanding books and specimens from the 15th to the 19th century and let them look and handle some rare typographic documents. Thank you again @ecole_estienne for welcoming us after all those years and see you soon for some new visits👋 by @esadtype_amiens
