On this 182nd Anniversary of Dominican Independence, we honor the vision of Juan Pablo Duarte and the sacrifice of our Founding Fathers, whose commitment to sovereignty and dignity continues to guide our nation.

It was an honor to mark this occasion during my first institutional visit to the Palacio Nacional, where I met with José Ismael Gómez Castaños to discuss strengthening trade and collaboration between the Dominican Republic, Israel, and the United States. I am grateful for his guidance on representing our country in the diaspora with responsibility and vision.

My sincere appreciation as well to Pastor Milcíades Franjul for his leadership, counsel, warm welcome, and thoughtful birthday wishes and gift. Thank you also to his team, including Alisson Pérez, for their hospitality and professionalism.

The Dominican Republic holds a unique place in history as the first country to offer refuge to Jewish families fleeing persecution in Europe during WWII, strengthening the enduring bond with Israel.

Being Dominican is a responsibility rooted in our forefathers’ values. Duarte’s vision lives in every Dominican, at home and across the diaspora.

In August 1948, a newly independent Israel issued its first currency.

78 years later, that history framed the opening of the Israel Economic Security Initiative’s inaugural working dinner in Tel Aviv.

The question then was how to establish economic independence. The question before us today is different:

How do we strengthen Israel’s economic security for the decades ahead?

Around one table, perspectives from economics, finance, investment, technology, national security, international affairs and industry came together to examine where Israel is strong, where structural vulnerabilities exist, and where greater cooperation with the United States and allied nations can strengthen long-term resilience.

But the evening was built around an even more practical question:

Where can we make a practical, meaningful contribution to Israel’s economic security?

The objective was not to reach consensus. It was to challenge assumptions, identify the questions that matter and determine where research, coordination and practical cooperation can move from analysis to action.

This is the beginning of the work.
