Join us for a reading group that discusses An Vi, the philosophy at the heart of the works of Catholic priest and philosophy professor Kim Định. According to his writing, An Vi is where the East not only meets the West but also resists it, and where Việt Nam finds its unique roots and footing between the impositions China, France, and the US. Perusing passages of Kim Định’s works and sources available through An Việt Archives, we will explore together what An Vi means, what this philosophy interacts with, and how it has come to shape a sense of identity across Vietnamese diasporic communities. Extract & guide translation will be provided beforehand. One of the things I love most about London, besides the fact that @shaomildred is here, is the incredible variety of Cantonese food.Today we discovered a hidden gem at the ESEA Community Centre, where they host a traditional communal Chinese lunch. It genuinely feels like having lunch with a big Chinese family.For just £12 for non members, or £10 if you’re a member (membership is only £10 a year), you get two home cooked Cantonese dishes, a comforting soup, and white rice for you to help yourself.If you’re 55 or older, lunch is only £6, making it an amazing resource for seniors.The ESEA Community Centre is a non profit organisation supported by the community. Every day they serve a different menu, creating a welcoming space where people can gather over a good meal.With the British National (Overseas) visa, more and more Hong Kong families have made London their home over the past few years. Places like this play an important role in preserving Cantonese culture while giving people a place to meet, connect, and support one another.The food was honestly delicious, but what impressed me even more was the idea behind it. This is such a wonderful community initiative, and I hope it continues to thrive for many years to come.If you’re in London, save this post for the next time you’re craving authentic home style Cantonese food.
