A beautiful evening at Hillyer.

So grateful to have been part of this year’s Auction on the Alley, and to celebrate its Grand Finale tonight.
A very special thank you to Tim Brown, the entire IA&A at Hillyer team, and everyone who worked behind the scenes to make this exhibition and auction possible. Thank you for creating a space where our work, conversations, and community can come together.

It took me almost six years to truly call DC home.

After growing up in Tehran, Rasht, Bandar Abbas, and Nowshahr, and later living in Prague, Vienna, Paris, and Berlin, my identity has been shaped by crossing cultures, languages, and places.

Something began to change in DC when I was able to make art again. After COVID, I started exhibiting my work, meeting more artists, and becoming part of this incredible creative community. Through the support of the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, I began to feel more rooted here.

I could not be more grateful for the way DC supports its artists. We have a wonderful community here, and we are given the possibility to keep making art, connecting, and dreaming through our work.

And this piece makes this moment even more meaningful to me.

I created US FLAG from garments donated to my project by people living in DC—residents, immigrants, and people from different backgrounds and histories. When they gave me their clothes, they had no idea what I was going to create with them.

Now, somehow, we are all here together.

These are a few photos from last night’s opening reception of Art Now. I’m deeply honored to be part of the exhibition and to have US FLAG selected as a finalist for the DC Art Bank Collection, especially during its 40th anniversary.

Standing there last night, surrounded by so many artists, friends, and members of this community, felt like witnessing the strength of the artistic community that helped me finally feel at home.

Six years later, I can say it: DC feels like home.

So happy to share that this work from Absence of Us is a finalist for the DC Art Bank Program! @thedcarts

Created from worn garments gathered from the DMV migrated community, the work transforms clothing—our second skins—into a sculptural archive of memory, absence, resilience, and identity. Preserved through resin, gold leaf, paint, and orchids, these once-soft materials become enduring traces of the bodies and lives they once accompanied.

This work is part of my ongoing Absence of Us series, which I had the opportunity to further develop and present through my solo exhibition at @iaahillyer

قرار است مجسمه دستان شهبانو فرح پهلوی توسط رامین اعتمادی بزرگ و اشا صدر هنرمندان ساکن واشینگتن ساخته شود. تیم خبری صدای آمریکا با حضور در جریان این پروژه که در منزل مسکونی شهبانو فرح پهلوی در نزدیکی واشینگتن صورت گرفت به گفت‌وگو با او پرداخت. پروژه دست‌های ماندگار تلاش دارد با ساخت مجسمه دستان افراد تاثیرگذار در حوزه فرهنگ و هنر ایران، میراث آنان را یادآوری کند.
