There are moments when love and grief sit so close together that words feel small. I don’t have words to properly describe Casey’s impact on our lives and community. As girls, Alison and I would dream about our future husbands and how we would raise our families together. By God’s lovingkindness, our reality far exceeded those dreams.

I am so thankful for the years of friendship Brett and I got to have with this remarkable man. Casey was many things to many people, and I feel so blessed to have gotten to bear witness to so many sides of him over the last two decades.

Usually the most interesting man in the room, Casey was a DEEPLY generous man who knew SO much about so many subjects. His mind and body hardly ever rested, always striving, always learning, exploring new ideas and passions constantly.

I’ve called Casey the “town mayor” for years because he didn’t know a single stranger. I know this loss is deeply affecting so many who knew him and loved him. He didn’t just have acquaintances, he had real friendships. Lots of them.

The boisterous, funny and charismatic man who lit up every room had a quieter, intentional side too. Watching him be a loving father to Sienna and Carter, and an adoring husband to Alison, is how I’ll always remember him. Together they have built a life anyone would be proud of.

But none of his successes compare to the character of their incredible kids, who truly carry all the best sides of both Alison and Casey with them. All we can hope to do is leave this world with a lasting legacy, and Casey more than accomplished that.

He was not just a good man from a distance; he was our friend, our people, part of the fabric of our families and our everyday lives. His absence leaves a monumental hole in our families, and in all the places we were used to finding him. His memory and legacy will live on in the ways he showed up for people, inspired and challenged others, and made people feel known.

Alison, Sienna, and Carter, I know there is no filling the space Casey leaves behind. But I also know you will never be alone in it. There are so many of us who love you deeply and will show up for you, over and over again, always. 🤍 by @eshockyy

Gotta love on this birthday-boy of mine!! 🎉🎁 Brett - not sure how in the world I got so lucky?! How do I describe my whole heart and better half without writing a novel?

I honestly love you more every year. (Even though you might love ChatGPT more than me 🤣)

You’re steady. You’re brave. You’re the hardest worker in any room, and since you’re not the braggy type, it often flies under the radar. But not with me. I see it all. And our kids see it too. You’ve given us an amazing life, not just in the things we have, but in the way you lead us with quiet strength, a servant’s heart, and rock -solid-soul-deep-unconditional love.

So today, on your birthday, I just want to shout from my little corner of the world: I love you so much and I’m so stinkin’ proud to be your wife!!
