my favorite reads of 2024šŸ–¤

ą±Øą§Ž the scholar and the last faerie door {4/5}
i was immediately hooked by the first sentence. i loved following clover, our main character, and her new friends alden, hero, and eddie. they are all so different and complex; it was a lot of fun seeing their different personalities work together to discover a magical world. i loved the dark academia vibes. the only reason this isn’t a 5-star is because i found myself bored at some parts and mainly just waiting for alden and clover to interact again.

ą±Øą§Ž powerless {5/5}
such a quick and fun read. kai and paedyn’s dynamic really did it for me at the time i picked this book up. i really didn’t want to put this one down. (did an in-depth review already!)

ą±Øą§Ž phantasma {4/5}
this book was so much fun. i loved the games and trials. the atmospheres they all took place in were perfect. i loved blackwell and ophelia’s dynamic. they had the perfect amount of banter, but i think my favorite part of this book was the mental health representation with OCD.

ą±Øą§Ž play along {4/5}
this was such a cute read that also had depth, which I appreciate. isaiah, our mmc, always has a smile on his face and is the comedic relief for many while struggling with anxiety and grief. i could relate to some of what was going through his head. it was really sweet seeing his relationship grow with kennedy, our fmc, as she navigated finding herself. figuring out what she really wanted since she always had people telling her who she was and what her life would be. by @esomnesic

reckless by lauren roberts šŸ„€āš”ļø

ā€œyou cannot be nothing when you are everything to someone elseā€

the last time i posted here, it was a powerless review. so it’s only fitting that I come back with reckless.

i do think i prefer powerless. i just felt like the trials brought so much more anticipation. i was always so excited to see kai and pae interact again since the romance was a bit more of a subplot.

im not complaining, though, because a lot of my favorite moments came from the time kai and pae shared.

i loved their banter and the way they tried to deny how they felt about each other, but their actions would always show otherwise. it was obvious they couldn’t hate each other if they tried.

easily a new favorite of mine! when a book has you torn between wanting to pick it up because you cannot get enough and also dreading finishing it, you know it’s good.

it has only been a few days since i finished this one, and i haven’t been able to pick up another book. the ending left me with such a book hangover. i desperately need the second book. all i can think about is paedyn and kai.

paedyn has become one of my all-time favorite FMCs. she is so strong-willed and proves time and time again that she isn’t someone to be underestimated.

her experiences have only shaped her into who she is. she’s stronger because of it! i think that’s important to remember.

🪻 ā€˜that girl—that haunted, weak girl begging for help, for love—is me. without her, I wouldn’t be who I am today. i’m still haunted, maybe even still hoping for love, but I am no longer weak because of it.’
—
kai was designed to be a killer, and because of that, he was taught to never show emotion. he was taught to be caculated like his father.

he was surprised by the idea that anyone would want to stay, especially paedyn. i’m so convinced taylor swift wrote ā€˜the archer’ about him.

🪻 ā€˜his breath catches, his gaze softens. he didn’t think i would stay. he expects everyone to leave him.’

these two characters stood so well on their own and even more together. they didn’t exist only within each other, which was so refreshing.

i lived for their unspoken connection. the banter was so good; i was kicking my feet.

my favorite reads of 2023 šŸ’š
(featuring ā€˜the perks of being a wallflower’)

ą±Øą§Ž saving 6 {5/5}
this book flew by for me. i did not want to stop reading, and it was the greatest feeling. this year, i had so much trouble finding books that genuinely interested me. whether it be the plot or characters. there was always something falling short for me, but that wasn’t the case here. i was hooked and grew an attachment to each character so fast, especially joey. i was rooting for his character the whole time ( how could you not?). the emotional wreck this book made me, but easily the best decision i made was picking this series back up this year.

ą±Øą§Ž a curse for true love {4/5}
not my favorite, but an adorable ending to an incredible trilogy nonetheless (i did an in-depth review recently)

ą±Øą§Ž reckless by elsie silver { 4/5 }
easily my favorite in the series :) ( did an in-depth review already!)

ą±Øą§Ž divine rivals {4/5}
oh, how i love whimsical plots. the magical typewriters and the beautifully written letters between iris and roman!!! it could have been a 5 stars, but i felt myself losing interest towards the end. however, i just wasn’t crazy about the battle, and that’s a personal preference.

ą±Øą§Ž fourth wing {4/5}
i initially gave it a 5 stars alongside many others, but giving it more thought, i don’t think this book quite met the mark for me. i definitely enjoyed many aspects of this story. the plot and romance were so much fun, but i actually think the star for me was the dragons, like cmon tairn carried this book.

ą±Øą§Ž the perks of being a wallflower {3.5/5}
a movie that i love so much, but the book left me with a 3.5 feeling and nothing more. i wouldn’t have expected it to make the list, but lately i find myself wanting to pick up the book and reread some of my favorite quotes (this book has no shortage of those) by @esomnesic

#whatreaderami 🧔
( featuring my current read! )

šŸ¦‡morning or evening?
evening because nothing compares to reading at night with no distractions, just me and my book!

šŸ¦‡ audio or ebooks?
ebooks because i prefer reading it myself! i feel like i process the information better that way :)

šŸ¦‡paperbacks or hardbacks?
i love paperbacks and how easy they are to hold. i can’t believe i would have chosen hardbacks just a few months ago??

šŸ¦‡ mood reader or TBR?
im 100% a mood reader. i cannot stick to a tbr for the life of me

šŸ¦‡ emotional or happy reads?
i usually gravitate towards more emotional reads, but i definitely need some happiness sprinkled in

šŸ¦‡ silence or noise?
both! i sometimes like to listen to music while i read but there are times when i cannot focus and would rather read in silence

šŸ¦‡new release or old release?
at the moment, new release but only because there are so many new ones right now that i just want to read them all!

šŸ¦‡classic lover or hater?
neither? i haven’t read any but i do want to at some point!

šŸ¦‡one book or multiple?
multiple! because i can switch back and forth. im technically doing that right now, actually with ā€˜crescent city,’ since it takes more brain power for me. i like having a lighter read i can read in between

this tag has been around a bit, so im not sure who has done it already, but i tagged a few i’d love to see do it ( if they haven’t already & want to! ) 🧔 by @esomnesic

i went into this book expecting to like it but not necessarily love it? i knew I’d enjoy it because ive enjoyed every other book in the chestnut springs series, but the surprise pregnancy trope is a trope im not normally a fan of. however, i didn’t even care because i was so invested in winter and theo’s relationship. the reverse grumpy sunshine had me intrigued from the start.

theo was such a sweetheart and really took the time to understand winter. when many had simply walked away from her. he is the definition of boy who fell first & im obsessed.

i also just really loved winter. i was rooting for her the whole book. i could see myself in her, and it just made me appreciate her character that much more. she had been hurt repeatedly and didn’t believe she deserved to be loved, but by the end of the book, she realized that might not be the case after all.
