Team Liquid Alienware go to Worlds with a support who won it nine years ago.

CoreJJ lifted the 2017 title with Samsung Galaxy, beating SK Telecom T1 in the final at Beijing's National Stadium. That club is now Gen.G, and Ruler, the ADC of that team, is in this Worlds field too. CoreJJ joined Team Liquid in 2019 and is still the starting support.

The rest of the lineup is newer. Josedeodo, an Argentinian jungler who came to the LCS from Latin America, signed for 2026, and Morgan was named Player of the Series when Team Liquid beat Cloud9 Kia 3-1 in the upper bracket final. They qualified in late September with a 3-0 over FlyQuest.

Nine years after the title. Experience, or mileage?

HANJIN BRION had more dragons in both games they lost. Xi'an Team WE had the Barons.

That was the 2-1 in Swiss Round 2 of the Demacia Cup Global Invitational. WE took Game 1 13-9 at 34:37 with both Barons, BRION answered 15-4 in under 27 minutes, and the decider went 16-10 to WE at 27:45. BRION led that one 3-1 on dragons, WE took the only Baron and seven towers to two.

Karis takes our MVP card: 12/8/17 across the series with 88% kill participation. He played Viktor, then Akali, then the Locke you see in the reel, where he went 6/2/7 in Game 3. In Game 1 he had a kill or an assist on all 13 of WE's kills.

WE are 2-0 and through to the knockout bracket in Beijing, best-of-fives from October 12. BNK FEARX and kt Rolster got there today as well. BRION sit at 1-1 and play on in Round 3.

kt Rolster took 22 towers in this series and lost none. RED Canids Kalunga did not get a dragon or a Baron either.

That was the 2-0 in Swiss Round 2 of the Demacia Cup Global Invitational. KT won Game 1 18-3 at 36:41, then closed Game 2 29-3 at 22:09 with a gold lead of nearly 20k. A day earlier RED Canids had beaten Natus Vincere 16-3. Today they were the side held to three kills, twice.

Bdd takes our MVP card: 18/1/17 across the series with 74% kill participation. He played Ryze in Game 1, and the Syndra you see in the reel is his Game 2, where he went 12/0/12.

KT are 2-0 and through to the knockout bracket in Beijing, best-of-fives from October 12. BNK FEARX and Team WE got there today as well. RED Canids sit at 1-1 and play on in Round 3.

BNK FEARX won two of these three games in under 26 minutes. The one that went long was the one they lost.

That was the shape of their 2-1 over LGD Gaming in Swiss Round 2 of the Demacia Cup Global Invitational. FEARX took Game 1 15-6 at 22:51, LGD answered 29-19 in a 38-minute Game 2, and the decider went 22-8 at 25:59 with nine towers to two, all three dragons and the Baron.

VicLa takes our MVP card: 19/11/20 across the series with 70% kill participation. He played Cassiopeia, then Ryze, then the Sylas you see in the reel, where he went 7/3/10 in Game 3.

Two wins are enough in this Swiss stage, so FEARX are through to the knockout bracket in Beijing, best-of-fives from October 12. LGD sit at 1-1 and play on in Round 3.

Beijing JDG Esports led this game six towers to two. They finished it with six.

HANJIN BRION took the next seven, both Barons and the match, 1-0. When the tower count read six to two the gold was level to within a thousand, and from there BRION won the kills 12 to 3 on the way to 21-10 at 35:33. GIDEON sat in the middle of all of it: 6/1/9 on Lee Sin, 71% kill participation, one death in 35 minutes against the six of the jungler opposite him.

Nothing in this field's pecking order pointed at that result. JDG had also replaced their starting jungler and mid four days earlier, and this Bo1 was the new pair's first game together. Seven of their ten kills came from that new jungler, who died six times. Their bot lane finished with none.

One Bo1 sorts nothing in a Swiss field, least of all on day one. The number that stays with us is the tower count: five of the six losing teams today ended with one or none, and JDG ended with six.

Three of the MVP cards we made today have Lucian on them.

Morttheus for RED Kalunga, Shaoye for LGD Gaming, and now About for Xi'an Team WE, 8 kills, 1 death, 3 assists in a 1-0 win over GAM Esports. Three different teams, three different opponents, three ADCs, one champion. The other two cards of the day went to Ryze and Caitlyn.

The map backed About up: 17 kills to 4, nine towers to one, two dragons to one, Baron to WE, closed at 29:41.

Bo1s on the opening weekend of the Demacia Cup Global Invitational do not make a meta. Three Lucian MVP cards in one day are worth noting anyway.

Team Vitality won the dragon count and still lost in 23 minutes.

BNK FEARX closed this one 1-0 at 23:16. Vitality had the dragons, two to one. FEARX had everything else: 15 kills to 8, eight towers to one, and the Baron. Dragons are the objective everyone counts. Towers are the one that ends games. Taeyoon took the MVP card with 5/3/4 on Caitlyn, though the number that explains this game is 8-1.

One Bo1 on the opening weekend, so nobody is sorting the field yet. But dropping the dragon count and winning in 23 minutes anyway is a specific kind of win.

Bdd was in on 17 of kt Rolster's 21 kills.

That is 81% kill participation, and it came in a 1-0 win over Shopify Rebellion at the Demacia Cup Global Invitational. 7 kills, 2 deaths, 10 assists on Ryze. He was not untouchable, he was just always there.

The game itself ran hot, which is what makes it worth a second look. 32 kills, 11 of those going the other way, and KT still finished with ten towers to none. A bloody scoreline and a one sided map do not often share a scoreboard. The ending explains a lot of it: 13 of those 32 kills came after the 22 minute mark, Baron in KT's hands, clock stopping at 25:23.

One Bo1 on the opening weekend, so nobody is sorting the field yet. But 17 of 21 tells you where Bdd was standing all game.

Shaoye went 10 and 0.

LGD Gaming opened their Demacia Cup Global Invitational with a 1-0 win over FlyQuest, and their ADC is the reason it never turned into a game. 10 kills, 0 deaths, 6 assists on Lucian, and a hand in 73% of everything LGD killed. The rest of the map told the same story: 22 kills to 2, nine towers to one, three dragons to none, Baron to LGD.

One Bo1 on the opening weekend, so nobody should draw the bracket from it yet. A 10/0/6 still counts.

Verified. Every match.

Twelve teams, and not one of them made Worlds this year.

The Demacia Cup Global Invitational starts Saturday in China and runs to October 17, with 223,000 dollars in the pot. Three teams from the LCK, three from the LPL, two from the LEC, two from the LCS, one from the LCP and one from the CBLOL. Four Swiss rounds, and then the last eight travel to Beijing for best of five.

Round one alone is six games, and every one of them puts two different regions against each other. Plenty of reasons to find someone to cheer for.

So tell us: who are you rooting for? Comment the tag, and say why if you feel like it. KT, BFX, BRO, JDG, WE, LGD, NAVI, VIT, SR, FLY, GAM, RED.

MVK Esports have played under seven different names since 2016, and they are going to Worlds.

They started in 2016 as Young Generation, and have also been Phong Vũ Buffalo, Dashing Buffalo, Saigon Buffalo, Vikings Esports and MGN Vikings Esports before taking the current name in December 2025. On Aug 22 they beat GAM Esports 3-2, which carried the championship points that sent them to Worlds, in August, well before most of the field was settled.

The man behind it has been here before. SofM played jungle for Suning in the 2020 Worlds final, against the team now called Dplus KIA, and today he owns and leads MVK. All five starters are Vietnamese, and Vietnam has two teams at this Worlds.

Is a club its name, or its people?
