Today’s my last day of undergrad! I can’t believe it. I’ve waited for this day since my high school graduation, and it always seemed so far-fetched to say, “I’m graduating next week!?”

My undergrad journey is one I wouldn’t trade for anything. I found a family, and I’m so grateful for all the friends I made along the way. The most testing part of my journey started when I began preparing for law school, the hardest thing I’ve done yet. I’m so grateful to have gotten into a few schools. I did most things right, but the one thing I neglected was every aspect of my health, because my goal was law school or law school, I genuinely was not considering another option. A gap year was out of the question.

As I’ve prepared to graduate, I’ve realized how burnt out and exhausted I am, physically and mentally, and I realized I most definitely cannot do any form of work right now. I pushed myself so hard these last four years. I can’t count how many organizations and projects I led, never taking a break and always looking for the next thing.

As much as part of me hates a gap year, I also know I would immediately crash and burn, probably in the first month of law school, or even if I decided to go into the workforce. So I decided to defer my applications, relocate temporarily , learn how to breathe, and try to remember who I am outside of a girl who wants to go to law school.

I’m graduating with two B.A.s at age 20. I have a tiny bit of time.

So if you’re reading this, whether it’s law school or not, take a break. Take your time. And remember to take care of yourself. ❤️

Thank you to all my friends who said, “Hell yeah,” when I ran this idea by them, because I was so scared to make this decision. But everyone has been so supportive, even begging me to take a break 😭😂 I can’t express how much I appreciate y’all!!
