After last years annual COP25 climate conference—where many youth activists were shut out of the conference center while mostly old men made decisions for the planet's future—the UN seems to finally be confronting the fact that they need the help of young people. A new Youth Advisory group has been created that is comprised of seven young people, aged between 18 and 28, who will take on roles to “provide perspectives, ideas and solutions” on the climate crisis...⁠

'EARTH – life giving, shelter, home. The past years made it clear to me that our planet is a fragile place and that its devastating destruction, be it the changing climate due to our excessive style of life, the deforestation of rainforest or the loss of nature through pollution and fire, goes hand in hand with our own. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
This image pictures a ‘mind forest’ composed of 65 unique cerebellar Purkinje neurons individually traced form the mouse brain. It should cause awareness to the observer that “nature” and “us” are just two sides of the same coin. The beauty of nature is the beauty of us and its destruction is ours, too. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
Purkinje cell dendrites in the cerebellum have a unique, complex and planar morphology and develop an almost infinite diversity of shapes. For the human eye they appear tree-like, thus their synergy reminds us of a vivid forest. I chose the number 65 to represent the number of years needed for the rainforest to regrow and gain back at least 80% of its diversity. 65 years - a human lifetime!'⁠⠀

Why doesn’t the U.S. have a Department of Climate?⁠
⁠
Federal restructuring has been done to address past crises (for example, the Dept. of Homeland Security was established after 9/11 through a directly-worded proposal shown here)—so why not address the climate crisis similarly? ⁠
⁠
More than half of our government’s 15 active departments have been formed in just the past 75 years, but among these executive-level departments and in all the hundreds of federal agencies, not one has a mission solely dedicated to the climate crisis…⁠

Polar bears often come to mind when we think about climate change, and for good reason—a new study found that most populations may go extinct within ~80 years if climate change continues at its current pace. ⁠
