Rapid development in the city of Jakarta has an impact on the mental health of the community which has a negative impact on thoughts, moods, and behaviors that will affect the decline in physical condition and quality of human life. Lack of sensitivity makes us unaware of the importance of mental health, which is dominated by continuous exposure to the urban or artificial environment.

Design is realized to create a qualified, certified and customer need design that takes into account all factors related to humans as functional users, with attention to safety, health, and human comfort factors.

This imbalance in spatial quality creates dead spaces that lack activity in the city center. In fact, busy and dense residential areas in the city center require effective use of space. For this reason, it is necessary to treat the dead space to create a binding space that connects the functional spaces in the city center so that it does not seem “contrasted” with the surroundings. This space can also be interpreted as In Between Spaces, which is a connection, transition, boundary, or differentiation that includes internal and external space design (Brookes, 2012).

The problem of dead space between the hustle and bustle of urban settlements is an interesting problem that can be solved with an architectural approach. Dead space among the crowd is not an obstacle to human activity, but rather a potential to accommodate and connect various activities for a purpose. Will a work of architecture be the solution to the demands of various human activities to bring dead space back to life?

Conditions that go beyond the limits of everyday life or that are “unusual” always have a relationship between human activities and the use of space. Reading the use of space for people with disabilities and the elderly requires experimentation, sensitivity and a critical awareness of the context in order to achieve optimal universal design that goes beyond standards. Experimentation in the field of design can give birth to new potentials in the form of ideas, concepts and archetypes that are expected to be highly adaptable in order to realise inclusive spaces around us.
