I came to Johnson C. Smith University at 18 years old with one purpose: to play volleyball. And yet as I reflect on my three years volleyball was the one thing that didn’t quite work out the way I imagined. I worked hard and improved drastically each year and that was about it. I thank God for that, God had a purpose for my life that far exceeded what I could’ve done on that court. God did so much through me in these three years, and I would be remiss not to acknowledge His favor.
In three years, the Lord allowed me to:
-Become a James B. Duke Presidential Scholar
-Become 3x Deans List Scholar
-Serve as 25-26 CIAA SAAC Southern VP
-Serve as 25-26 JCSU SAAC VP
-Serve 2025 CIAA Mind, Body and Soul Town Hall panelist
-Start JCSU’s first FCA @fcajcsu
-Help lead first ever partnerships with the @smitty_project and CIAA to support literacy across the east coast
-Help lead the @ciaasports very first conference-wide Unity Walk
-Helped JCSU athletics become Division 2 award of excellence runner up
-Conduct research on improving accuracy of cardiometabolic disease definitions in increasing cardiometabolic health literacy
-Conduct research Novel Bismuth Oxyhalides (BiOX) Nanomaterials for Energy Storage Applications
-Conduct research on equity opportunities within the atrial fibrillation care pathway
-Become the 2025 CV Transforum’s youngest E-poster winner
-Be named the 25-26 Mcnair Scholar of the year
-Become JCSU volleyball’s most improved player 2x
-Present research at over 7 conferences (including UCLA, NCAT, and NCCU)
-Be a NCAA IECE Fellow
And so much more but I’m not tryna turn this into my resume.🤣🤣 Each of these “accomplishments” are evidence of God’s unwavering hand over my life. What a God that he gives me more than I could ever earn or imagine.
