🏁😂 F.K.L ROUND 7 | SHENINGTON 🏎️💨

🌧️ Well, the rain dance didn't work… clearly my dancing needs work! Maybe next time I'll get Mum and Dad involved too. On second thoughts, not Dad. His version would probably be the Banana Rum Dance 🍌🥃😂

Speaking of Dad, the race week poster had the WRONG MONTH on it! 🤦‍♂️🤣 Might be time to sack the Instagram editor… although I'm not sure the replacement would work for alcohol 🍹

🏎️ ONTO THE RACING…

Practice started with a couple of kart issues, which I'm not entirely convinced were ever resolved. Some very strange times across the field, so either the timing system was having a moment or we weren't the only ones scratching our heads! 🤔

⏱️ Qualifying: P3 👊
A step in the right direction! Unfortunately, starting on the inside line turned out to be less of an advantage than I'd hoped. Turns 2 and 4 proved tricky, and I learnt the hard way, dropping down to P9. 🤦‍♂️

🏁 Final: P5

Still work to do, but I was pleased to fight my way back through the field in the final and bring home a P5. 💪 Not quite where I want to be, but we'll keep chipping away!

2026 is proving to be a challenging year, but that's racing! Sometimes you're the hammer, sometimes you're the nail, and sometimes you're wondering if your kart has secretly joined the opposition. 😂🔧

On the bright side, no bumper cars this time! 😂🙌 Always good to share the track with friends, and a massive congratulations to all the podium finishers. 🏆👏

The good news? Half-term is coming, which means some seat time in my own kart! 🙌🏎️

And keep your eyes peeled… 👀 We've got some exciting news and posts coming over the next couple of weeks. 🤫😁

📅 BUT WAIT… THERE'S MORE!

The next F.K.L race day is a DOUBLE HEADER featuring Rounds 6 AND 8! 🏁🏁

No, that's not a typo. And no, the Instagram editor hasn't started on the Banana Rum this early in the day. 😂🍌🥃

So, guess what? I'll be doing my rain dance AGAIN! 🌧️💃

Let's make Rounds 6 and 8 SPICY! 🌶️ If the rain turns up, hopefully it'll level the playing field a bit and give us all something to fight for. Bring on the chaos… preferably the controlled kind! 🤣 by @ethanbrownkarting

🌧️ RACE WEEK IS HERE! 🏁

Getting ready to go racing again… and after setting the quickest time in wet practice at Round 6 before the heavens decided to call time on proceedings, I’m thinking a rain dance might be in order! 😂🌧️

Clearly, I’ve decided the best way to improve performance is to control the weather rather than the kart. 🤷‍♂️😂

Can’t wait to get back out there — it feels like ages since I’ve been strapped into a kart! 🏎️💨

🌧️ FINALLY… A WET RACE DAY! 🌧️

Especially exciting when you’re racing in F.K.L, where the tyres are slicks… whatever the weather decides to throw at you! 🤦‍♂️😂

They say rain is the great equaliser in racing — reducing the performance gap between karts and putting the focus firmly on driver skill.

So obviously… after the previous 4 races of tag and dodgems, Ethan decided to make a point. 😏

🔥 FASTEST TIME OF THE DAY IN PRACTICE
🥇 Over 0.5 seconds quicker than everyone else 👏🏻👍🏻👊🏻

Not too shabby! Shame there are no championship points for practice… 🙄

Unfortunately, with the rain continuing to come down, the F.A.T team made the decision that racing simply wasn’t safe. Shenington has recently had new tarmac laid in various sections, and unfortunately some areas were retaining a rather impressive amount of water. 🌊

So… another day where the pace was looking very promising, only for the British weather to pull the plug. 🇬🇧🌧️

Still, fastest in practice by over half a second will do nicely. 😉

Now we just need someone to explain to the British weather that race day is not the time to demonstrate its personality. 😂🏎️💨

🏁 RACE WEEK! 🏁

F.K.L Round 6 – Shenington 🏎️💨

After the excitement of the first 5 rounds, I’ve come to the conclusion that my racing suit clearly isn’t providing enough protection… and the kart definitely needs some upgraded bumpers. 😂

Because apparently racing is supposed to be about going fast, not testing the structural integrity of the kart, driver and surrounding scenery! 🤦🏻‍♂️🤣

So, new suit? Probably.
Bigger bumpers? Definitely.
Anyone ending up in the ambulance? Hopefully NOT this time! 🚑😂

Here’s hoping we can all remember the golden rule this weekend:

YOU CAN’T WIN ON THE FIRST LAP! 😜

The current forecast is looking WET 🌧️, so obviously that means everything should be nice and calm and sensible…

…or, more likely, absolute carnage. 😂💦🏎️

🏁🏆 P1 at Rissington! 🏆🏁

What a day! 😁👊🏻🥇

Really pleased with the result, but there was plenty going on behind the scenes too! The dogsbody/mechanic had a LOT to do 🔧😂 — learning all about scrutineering, getting everything ready and experiencing a full race day in our own kart has been absolutely invaluable.

And the good news… the dogsbody survived the day without a nervous breakdown! 🙌🏻😂

Although, his language didn't quite survive intact… 🙄🤣

@arlo_herbert_racing Dad did say he couldn't share a video of Arlo because it contained far too many expletives from the mechanic! 🤬😂

I can neither confirm nor deny this allegation… 🤷🏻‍♂️🤣

The @mighte_motorsport kart was the real star though, performing without a single fault all day. 💪🏻🔥

🏁 RACE WEEK! 🏁

It’s been a busy one getting everything ready for my 1st Club Championship race tomorrow! 😬🏎️💨

First stop, the brilliant @trs_wheel_solutions, who kindly sprayed a new set of wheels. 👌🏻

The mechanic now has 4 sets of wheels… although buying 3 second-hand means only 2 sets actually have the same offset! 🤦🏻‍♂️😂

Safe to say, the mechanic is on a steep learning curve! 🤪🔧

While we were at TRS, we took the opportunity to fit and inflate the mega-soft wets 🌧️🛞 — thankfully @mkautotec let us use the compressor! 👍🏻

There were also some BIG BOY tyres sitting next to the kart tyres… 😳 Any guesses what they are for?
And Dad thought kart tyres were expensive! 💰😂

Kart cleaned ✅
Tyres sorted ✅
Everything loaded ✅
Ready to race tomorrow! 🏁🔥

Although… I think we might need a bigger van or a trailer! 💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰😂

On the bright side, the weather is looking EPIC for tomorrow ☀️🙌🏻 and I get to have some fun racing with a few friends too! @arlo_herbert_racing @aw_karting 🏎️💨

Meanwhile, my chauffeur, mechanic, slave and general dogsbody is just hoping to make it through the weekend without having a nervous breakdown! 🥴😂

School holidays are nearly over, so it was great to be back out on track at Kart Silverstone on Monday! 🏁🏎️

A couple of recent changes to the kart too, with a new race number and, even more excitingly… the fantastic news that we have a new sponsor! 🙌

Another race day to forget. 🙃

Practice and qualifying went well... then the racing turned into a demolition derby. I was under the impression karting was meant to be non-contact. 🤷‍♂️

The pre-final started positively from P3, but Corner 2 (which now deserves the official title of "The Danger Zone") proved once again that three karts don't magically fit side-by-side. I made it through the chaos, but sadly one of my friends wasn't so fortunate and ended up in the hands of the paramedics, bringing his day to an early end. Thankfully, he's okay.

The final started from P5, and I got a great launch, making up places through Turn 1... only to arrive at the now-infamous Turn 2. Once again, drivers seemed convinced three-wide on cold tyres was a brilliant idea. The two karts beside me collided, I had nowhere to go, and the slow-motion replay actually made it look quite impressive as my kart came to a complete stop with all four wheels off the ground. Not exactly the kind of airtime I was aiming for.

I got my head down and quickly caught the pack, only for the same two drivers to collide again. The resulting chain reaction left several drivers with nowhere to go, brought out the red flag, and sent three of us—including me—to the paramedics. Race over.

The good news is that nobody was seriously hurt.

The frustrating part? The drivers causing the incidents still walked away with points, while those caught up through no fault of their own were left with a DNF. That's a bitter pill to swallow.

This season is certainly testing the patience. The driving standards have been... interesting... and if I wasn't having bad luck, I'd have no luck at all.

A huge thank you to the paramedics, who were certainly kept busy throughout the afternoon, and to the marshals and the FKL team, who were on the scene incredibly quickly after every incident. One marshal in particular looked like he was taking part in the 100m sprint—I'd have backed him to give the karts a run for their money! 🏃💨

Now for a six-week break to rest, reset, and come back ready for the final four rounds. Hopefully with fewer demolition derby entries and a lot more actual racing. 🏁💪 by @ethanbrownkarting
