This coat was draped and constructed in a way that maintains the fitted, cinched look in front while simultaneously letting the back pieces hang freely in a cloak like manner

Inspired by a picture of Miles Davis fashioned in a slim overcoat, as well as this voluminous, structured dress by Jean-Marie Armand, 1968

Stardust is defined as a magical or charismatic quality or feeling, which is the perfect way to characterize how I felt during my initial research phase for this collection.

This collection is about black identity, and how it is expressed through style. Taking inspiration primarily from the Harlem Renaissance; a period of cultural explosion and widespread elegance amongst African Americans in the early 20th century, this was the first time a movement entirely rooted in, and about the black experience reached recognition on a global scale.

It included black painters, musicians, writers, poets, photographers, dancers, etc. who operated in Harlem, or emigrated there to be apart of this movement. The impact of a formerly enslaved people, newly freed and redefining themselves on their own terms—surpassing the prevailing standards of style and identity of their time-is immeasurable. Looking primarily to this period, and following the progression of that time through the following decades… I have explored an avant-garde approach to vintage menswear styles, as well as visual cues and references that trace all the way through to present day aesthetics. Thus, resulting in a blending of past and present, as well as a juxtaposition of high-elegance with an urban street swagger.
