Documenting the process

Starting the journey the right way.

My name is Ethan Hensley from Manchester, Kentucky. I began training in February 2026 after being a longtime fan of MMA, and since stepping on the mats I’ve truly fallen in love with the art of no-gi jiu-jitsu and the 10th Planet system.

I want to give a sincere thank you to Coach Scott and Coach Gina for the opportunity to be part of the team and for the guidance they’ve already given me. I’m grateful to be learning in such a strong and positive environment.

My focus right now is simple: keep showing up, keep improving, and prepare to compete in BJJ while continuing to grow into other areas of MMA. Excited to document the process and be part of this community.

This is just the beginning.🥋🇧🇷🇺🇸

A lot of new and exciting young fighters on this card. I’ve seen a lot of these guys on Contender Series, so it’s cool seeing them now get their shot on a numbered UFC event. Definitely a lot of potential future stars on this one.

What do y’all think? Good card or bad card?

Saturday I had the opportunity to compete at the @adcc_official Nashville Open in the 70kg beginner division. I went 2-2 with two submissions and finished 5th out of 18 competitors.

This was an experience of a lifetime that I’ll always be grateful for. From competing at an event like ADCC and trying In-N-Out for the first time, to gaining so much knowledge and learning more about myself as a competitor.

I’m proud of myself and my teammates for stepping up and putting our skills to the test against some of the best in the country. I’m beyond blessed for my girlfriend, friends, coaches, and team who supported me through it all. @10prichmond @afsacademy

Thankful for everything this experience taught me. Back to work for the next ADCC in December.

I competed this weekend at the FUJI Cincinnati Fall Championship and came home with 🥇 in Gi and 🥈 in No-Gi, both in my white belt division. I also got the opportunity to compete up a weight class in the intermediate division to test my skills and challenge myself.

I’m grateful for everything I learned this weekend and I’m ready to get back to training, work on my weaknesses, and continue getting better.

Huge thank you to my coaches and teammates for helping me prepare and pushing me along the way. I also appreciate my girlfriend for always supporting me and making sure I’m prepared, and my friends and family for keeping me motivated and pushing me to do my best.

I also had the pleasure of meeting and getting a picture with @thehillbillyhammer ,which was a really cool experience!

Next stop is Nashville for the ADCC US Open! Wish me luck with training, and if you’d like to support me on my journey, feel free to message me.

I competed this weekend at the local @goodfighttournament and earned 🥇 in the no-gi 155 white belt division, which featured 12 competitors. I finished the day 4-0, securing 3 straight ankle submissions and 1 armbar. On top of that, winning my bracket qualified me to compete at Worlds in December, which is a huge accomplishment in my books, especially after only competing twice so far!

I’m incredibly grateful for everyone who has supported me throughout this journey so far. My teammates, friends, and my beautiful girlfriend have all played a major role in helping me get to where I am today.

A special thank you to the coaches @10prichmond and @10pjjlexington for the constant support, guidance, and encouragement to keep pushing myself and growing in a sport I’ve truly fallen in love with. I’m learning something new every day, and I’m excited to see where this journey continues to take me.

Double bronze in my first tournament ever, competing in both gi and no-gi. While I didn’t get the results I ultimately wanted I’m proud to have stepped on the mats, tested myself, and gained valuable experience against tough opponents with only pushing 4 months of training.

Huge thank you to my coaches and teammates from @10prichmond and @10pjjlexington for helping me prepare, cornering me through my matches, and supporting me every step of the way. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without this amazing team behind me.

One of the coolest parts of the day was getting to meet new people who share the same passion for jiu jitsu. Everyone I came across was respectful, and it made the experience even better. @fujibjj put on a well ran event from start to finish, and being a part of it made me even more excited to continue competing in the future.

This experience only made me hungrier to improve. It showed me what I need to work on, what I’m capable of, and how much more I want to accomplish in this sport. I’m grateful for the lessons, grateful for my team, and excited to get back to training.

This is just the beginning.

Some tough matchups all around, but these are the fighters I’m rolling with tonight for #ufcfreedom250 !

If you have not seen all the weigh ins, the face offs, and other things they have done for the event you need to check it out on youtube, it’s been absolutely mind blowing to see how far the UFC and MMA have come.

Either way, it’ll be one of the coolest nights in combat sports history so tune in @ 8pm .🇺🇸

First competition on June 20th. Feels good to finally put all the training to the test and see how far I’ve come already. Now it’s time to really lock in these next few weeks. More discipline, more work, and making every training session count. Started this not knowing much, and now I’m stepping into something I genuinely want to keep pursuing. Excited for the future and everything that comes with competing.

One of the best parts of all this has been the people around me. Day by day the gym stopped feeling like just a place to train and started feeling more like a second family. Everybody pushes each other to improve, and being around that kind of environment has helped me grow a lot both on and off the mats. Thank you 10th Planet Richmond!🪐✋🏻🤚🏻🥋
