Rice is farmed through a careful process that begins with planting seeds in prepared fields, which are often flooded with shallow water to create rice paddies. Farmers either sow the seeds directly into the fields or grow young seedlings in nurseries before transplanting them into the paddies. Throughout the growing season, the fields are carefully managed by maintaining the right water level, removing weeds, and supplying nutrients through fertilizer so the plants can grow strong and healthy. Rice plants need plenty of sunlight, warm temperatures, and a reliable water supply, which is why they are commonly grown in tropical and subtropical regions. After several months, the plants produce golden heads filled with mature grains, signaling that they are ready for harvest. Farmers harvest the rice by hand or with specialized machines called combine harvesters, which cut the stalks and separate the grains from the rest of the plant. The harvested grains are then dried to reduce their moisture content and prevent spoilage during storage. Next, the rice is milled, where the tough outer husk is removed to produce brown rice. If the bran and germ are also removed and the grains are polished, the result is white rice. Finally, the rice is sorted, packaged, and shipped to stores around the world, where it becomes one of the most widely consumed staple foods on Earth. by @ethanisbarty11
