two weeks ago, on Thanksgiving day, 250 yards from the physical finish line, you ran into the arms of the Father, finishing the heavenly race set before us.

truthfully, there are so many words and attributes I could speak of you. from the fact you were a perfect gentleman, to the way you were filled with constant joy, and unwavering faith. the way you made every person in the room feel seen, likewise showing and indicating their life story was of importance. i honestly don’t have the words to fully incapsulate all that you truly were, nor would I have the time.

However, more than anything, I can say who you were to me. Jesse, I truly found a brother in you. someone who for once it felt like we grew up the same way, in far away places. you were a safe place for me. we talked theology and expressed our burning to see a generation set on fire for the Jesus of the Bible. you pushed me to remember that our lives are for “the one”. our testimonies and actions are simply for the pursuit of those who are lost. you also were one of the few people I could truly be my complete self around, especially my insane jokes hahaha.

but most importantly, something i have yet to share with really anyone around me. you showed me how to truly be me.

I am not shy by any means, but that’s not what i mean. you showed me to step out of the shadow of fear, or pride, or trying to be seen. you showed me that people loved me, Ethan, for ME. that my gifting has a reason, and that it is a “disservice to the world if I hold back me”.

that line changed me.

Jesse, I will never forget that. My LEGACY has changed because of you. My kids legacy is changed because of you.

Now, maybe we won’t get to go to Japan on missions together, or I won’t have my Canadian groomsmen with my on my wedding, but I know for sure one thing.

When I walk through those gates, and the Lord says “Well done, my good and faithful servant”, there you will be. Giving me that big smile and embracing me in that big hug one more time. And oh what a day that will be.

I love you Jesse, my brother by choice.

The thorns.
The nails.
The cross.

He didn’t hold back for us—
why do we hold back from Him?

Not just part of our lives.
Not just when it’s easy.
Not just when we need something.

Why not everything?

Because that’s what He gave first.
