This artist blew up so fast that people think she’s AI.

Her name is @pixychu

And with only 7 songs out, she already has over 4 million monthly listeners.

It’s because she mastered 1 critical thing:

Branding.

See, most new artists struggle to build a real fanbase because they simply don’t have enough music out yet to leave a strong impression.

But PIXY got around this problem by mastering branding.

And this is how she did it.

She took everything she was already into:

Anime. Games. Memes.

And connected all of it to her music.

Just look at her website.
It’s like a 2000s game menu.

And her socials are filled with the same references and visuals.

All of this creates a very strong impression.

You may not like it.
But you’ll definitely remember it.

And that’s how you create a strong brand.

By associating yourself with all of your unique interests.

Comment “PIXY” to get my branding guide.

It’s everything you need to define your artist brand and your North Star.

This rapper has one of the biggest songs on TikTok right now because he used 1 clever strategy.

And it’s the same strategy Jack Harlow, Doechii, and Central Cee have used to get billions of streams.

His name is @noodah05.

And his viral song Around Me samples an old pop megahit:

Tove Lo’s Talking Body.

But turning pop songs into rap songs is nothing new.

So why did @noodah05’s song go viral?

Because the sample he used has one perfect quality:

Its age.

Talking Body came out in 2014.

That means it’s old enough to actually feel new to a lot of people.

But recent enough to feel nostalgic instead of dated.

And that matters.

Because if you use the wrong pop sample, your song can fall flat.

You’re looking for a song that’s roughly 10 years old.

If you pick one that’s too recent, it can feel overplayed.

If you pick one that’s too old, not enough people are going to remember it well enough to feel nostalgic about it.

But if you find one that’s just old enough?

You have a much better chance of creating that perfect mix of familiarity and novelty.

Just like @noodah05 did.

This artist made an entire video game just to announce his album.

And it was honestly genius.

Less than a month after release, the album already had 10 million streams.

That’s about 10x his monthly listeners.

To hype up his album C, @lucybedroque created Paradise Chateau with help from real game developers and artists.

Inside the game, fans had to solve puzzles to uncover hidden clues.

Those clues revealed the album’s release date and tracklist.

But that wasn’t all he hid.

Fans who dug even deeper found an easter egg with two unreleased songs.

Basically teasing another future album before this rollout was even over.

And that’s what made the whole thing work.

It wasn’t just a quick announcement. It got his fans involved. It gave them something to participate in.

That’s how you create a strong rollout.

Make the wait part of the experience.
And give fans more than they expect.

@khantrast solved one of the hardest problems for new musicians by using anime clips.

Khantrast is a rapper with a sizable following.

But before he ever got in front of the camera, he used something I call Aesthetic Borrowing to help blow up his music.

He started posting on YouTube with faceless music videos made up of stitched-together anime clips.

These videos gave his music and his brand a visual identity without him ever spending money on a camera or an expensive set.

And that matters because most emerging artists don’t need better songs.

They need better visuals.

Because if the visuals are boring, people scroll before the song even has a chance.

That’s where Aesthetic Borrowing comes in.

You take a visual world or aesthetic that’s already popular and attach it to your music.

Khantrast used anime.
You can use whatever fits your music and your brand.

Using Aesthetic Borrowing you can affordably create a cool brand for your music.

@jasonderulo corniest habit might actually be his smartest marketing trick.

He name-drops himself in everything.
Over and over again.

Because he realized that people often remember songs but not the artists who made them.

Your music can be all over the radio.
It can go viral on TikTok.
And people will still have no idea who you are.

That’s a huge problem in crowded genres like pop and rap.

So Jason Derulo made sure you constantly heard his name by often making it the first lyric of his songs.

You might think it’s corny.
But it makes his name really hard to forget.

And that’s the point.

Because years later, people still know exactly who he is.

So if you want people to remember your artist name, keep reminding them.

Saying it once is not enough.

Do you want more posthumous music?

The Business of Dead Artists, part 3:
@xxxtentacion

After passing away in 2018, X became the highest-certified independent rapper in RIAA history.

With 83 million single units.

But how much money is all of that actually worth?

With close to 40 billion streams on Spotify, and nearly 9 million streams every day, X’s music still makes around $30,000 a day from Spotify royalties alone.

That makes his catalog likely worth somewhere between $50 and $100 million.

But unlike most artists, X didn’t split ownership with a bunch of execs or managers.

When he passed away, he left it all to his son and his mom.

His mom now runs Bad Vibes Forever, the company that manages X’s music and legacy.

And that legacy isn’t over yet.

Bad Vibes Forever recently took out a $20 million loan to invest in more posthumous music and launch a clothing line.

Even years after his death, XXXTentacion is still one of the biggest independent artist businesses in music.

What artist should I cover next?
