River District’s Summer Social is designed to bring the neighbourhood together. With yoga, food, music, mini golf and activities for all ages, it creates an opportunity for River District residents and the wider Vancouver community to connect.

For Summer Social, we expanded River District’s brand illustrations with adapted artwork and new imagery inspired by the day’s programming.

Across posters, social graphics and signage, a flexible layout system allowed the illustrations and event information to shift across formats while maintaining a consistent look and feel.

What began as artwork for an earlier River District project has gradually become part of a broader visual language for the neighbourhood—one that can continue to evolve to reflect the growing community.

A strong brand foundation doesn’t end with the identity. It becomes the basis for every asset that follows.

For Reign by @Wesgroup, the visual direction was inspired by a serene way of living where nature and the city exist in quiet balance. This creative vision became the foundation for the project’s motion renderings and film.

Developed through a collaboration between Etho, Common Ground Studio, and KAZ, each team brought its own expertise to the project. Etho established the creative direction, Common Ground Studio crafted the motion renderings, and KAZ created the live-action cinematography. Working from a shared visual language, each medium was developed independently while contributing to a unified narrative.

The result is an immersive film that moves seamlessly between rendered and filmed environments, creating a continuous experience that feels natural rather than divided between different forms of media.

Projects like this demonstrate the value of a strong brand system. When a clear creative direction is established from the outset, it provides a shared framework that allows multiple collaborators to contribute their craft while creating work that feels cohesive, intentional, and greater than the sum of its parts.

Following our recent look at the Reign project, we are sharing a closer look at the design of the Reign website.

For our team, the geographical context of Metrotown’s urban energy coexisting with the green space of Central Park forms the foundation of the project, defining a lifestyle that Reign enables. As a compact version of this neighbourhood, the product introduces wellness-oriented amenities, refined interior spaces, and expansive balconies that blur the line between indoor and outdoor living. This balance of urban and natural living is the ultimate outcome, and capturing this essence became the fundamental basis for our design structure.

We integrated this environmental context and narrative directly into the design, balancing a disciplined grid system with a somewhat fluid pacing. In particular, the interactive modules developed for the map and amenity preview introduce functional features designed to translate the refined sensibility of the development into a seamless digital experience. We wanted the website to reflect this inherent harmony, ensuring every interactive element naturally translates that physical reality for the user.

We are grateful to the Wesgroup team for their shared vision and close collaboration over the past year, allowing us to bring this brand ecosystem to life.

Last week, we visited the Reign Presentation Centre to document the work we‘ve been developing in close collaboration with Wesgroup ( @wesgroup ) over the past year. Experiencing the brand in its physical environment offered an opportunity to capture many of the moments and details that have shaped Reign’s evolving brand experience.

What began as a brand refresh grew into a comprehensive marketing communications program spanning the website, presentation centre, digital campaigns, and outdoor signage and graphics. Witnessing the brand extend beyond its visual identity and come to life across multiple touchpoints made this project especially meaningful for our team.

We‘ll be showcasing more from the Reign project soon, including the website, presentation centre, and campaign work. Stay tuned.

Six years ago, we developed the brand identity for Comma Properties ( @commaproperties ). Since then, we’ve collaborated with French illustrator Mai-Li Bernard ( @mailibernard ) on a series of signature illustrations that bring to life Comma‘s vision for a new way of rental living.

Starting with conversations, ideas, and the occasional sketch, we worked with Mai-Li to create scenes rich with character and detail. Each illustration captures everyday lifestyle moments with humour, warmth, and her distinctive whimsical style.

We recently caught up with Mai-Li to learn more about her creative process, artistic influences, and the collaboration behind these enduring brand visuals.

Summerhill Fine Homes ( @summerhillfinehomes) builds high-performance, design-forward homes on BC’s Sunshine Coast and beyond. We helped them tell this story.

Inspired by the natural materiality and lifestyle of the coast, we set out to craft a brand that highlighted their attention to design, detail and sustainability, as well as their connection to clients who become friends.

We travelled to the Coast for multiple days of video and photoshoots, experiencing for ourselves not only the exceptional homes they build, but the way light and shadows would play across an array of crafted and natural textures that framed each home. Our aim was to capture this feeling across a full brand refresh, photo and video direction, copywriting and a completely redesigned website, to tell the story of exceptional craftsmanship alongside inspired coastal living.

The Shape of a New Era is a 180-page hardcover book documenting the philosophy and design process behind CURV, a 60-storey Passive House tower envisioned to set a new benchmark for residential living—bringing together sustainability, wellbeing, and design.

Framed around the idea of “Luxury with Purpose,” the book gave shape to the project’s underlying intent. Etho art-directed, designed, and co-wrote the publication, translating complex ideas into something more human and accessible.

It was recognized with the Red Dot Award: Brands & Communication Design in 2023. @reddotdesignaward

We partnered with wesgroup ( @wesgroup ) to reimagine the River District ( @riverdistrict ) brand—bringing new energy to a place that’s already full of life.

By revisiting key visual elements across photography, film, and illustration, we set out to better capture the spirit of the community—vibrant, diverse, and always evolving. The result is a brand that feels more alive, more human, and deeply connected to everyday moments.

The website acts as a living platform, continuously updated with local events, new openings, and what’s next for the district—so there’s always something new to discover. by @etho.studio
