What does it really take to be job ready?
Our Job readiness Webinar brought together Ms Sasha Genevieve Namukwaya, Mrs Peace Masiko Hasahya( @mapeouszeye ) and Mr Lawrence Lutalo on 1st August who shared practical insights on how young professionals can prepare for and position themselves for opportunities.
Here’s some key takeaways:
• Be intentional with opportunities.
Don’t stop after one application, explore international opportunities, graduate trainee programs and opportunities on LinkedIn. Sometimes, what sets you apart is simply being willing to apply.
• Build a CV that tells a story.
University projects, freelance work, volunteering, webinars and other experiences count. Be authentic, show your impact and demonstrate your growth mindset. Tailor your CV to the organization’s vision and mission.
• Build skills beyond your qualifications.
Technical and analytical skills matter but so do problem solving, communication and the ability to influence others. Never stop learning just because you have landed the job! The biggest lesson;
Job readiness is not something you start working on when you need a job, it is something you build everyday.
