I’ve gotten in the habit of dismissing my own impact.

It’s always a team effort, and holy crap I love my people. With Joey as my teammate, and our CCS family behind every move we make, it’s easy to hand out praise, because honestly, they’ve earned it, and there’s a lot to praise.

But how can I expect anyone else to be proud of what they’re building if I won’t do the same? I’ve always prided myself on never asking someone to do something I wouldn’t do myself. Turns out, I’ve been breaking that rule the whole time.

If you’ve spent time in spaces that expected you to shrink, let this be your permission. Take the credit. Be proud of what you’ve done. Then get back to work.

My lifts gave me a total PR. I’m happy I competed and enjoyed my day as a lifter.

Here are my thoughts after working the meet and attending the NGB, because I don’t plan to run for an elected position in any fed.

USAPL seems to be going in a better direction, but it seems like we are seasoning the meat and potatoes better without upgrading to fresher ingredients. This is not USAPL specific. It’s a problem across a lot of federations. I guess at least we don’t have Article ##

Coaches can wear hats again which is awesome, but it’s ridiculous that the conversation around hats was given more attention than the conversation around increasing retention rates.

Congrats to PLU for both establishing requirements of a deadlift back spotter and figuring out how to efficiently use video review on a jury before USAPL even knew who they were.

At any multi-platform meet, your experience as a lifter also relies on what platform you are put on (too much variation in judging standards) which is not great. Too lenient and too strict are both negatives, equally as detrimental. Yes, lifters need to adjust, but you shouldn’t ever be expected to adjust so significantly that you’re basically following a different set of standards.

Referee continuing education makes a huge difference. This includes how to communicate with S/Ls

As a referee, I thought the technical secretaries did a great job.

Witnessing leadership dismiss conversations during the NGB was disheartening.

There a lot of people who do an amazing job and would be beneficial for productivity who did not get elected for anything or didn’t run. It seems certain individuals in voting positions are resistant to hard conversations that need to happen.

There are finally more women on the EC.

I still have confidence that I can continue to help grow powerlifting within my own community and be an advocate for the local lifters/sub categories that don’t get nearly enough attention.

Overall, huge bummer and also great success. Powerlifting administration continues to fill the void of an emotional rollercoaster/toxic relationship I haven’t experienced since meeting my very supportive and loving husband. taken in The Westin Chicago Lombard by @etshepperoni
