Made it to Friday in the sick house. 🤢Little joys saving me this week: Widow’s Bay (although one of those last episodes got too dark 😳), Mozi laundry detergent, Trader Joe’s juice popsicles, talking to Marge the duck lamp every morning like she’s real, making myself slip away to the gym every day, saving ideas for summer meals and treats I want to make, Good Hang podcast, incubating eggs (8 days left 😁), pretty summer nightgowns, pale pink nail polish, realizing the silver lining of sick kids…they don’t mess up the house when they sleep all day 🙈. by @etst

Hampton House Flu of ‘26. My hands are raw from washing them. My motherhood quota of fetching ice water for children is met. Done. Over it. Carry on. by @etst

There’s nothing worse than trying to hustle out the door in the morning and losing steam over a crashout from someone’s shoes that won’t go on. We are huge @kizik fans in this house. They’re not only great for Lainey to give her a little break with her balance issues, but they’re great for all of us in helping us get out the door quickly. The patented heel tech springs back in place so you can slip them on and off without bending over. Bonus? They come in lots of trendy styles. #kizikspartner @shop.ltk #liketokit https://liketk.it/6eg8cUse code ETST15 for 15% off by @etst

My favorite thing ever in all the world…adventuring in quaint little towns with these three funny, trip-loving kids who fortunately notice and love the same little details I do. “Mom, look at the front door on that house!” “The flowers in that window box!” “They’re playing the song from Dan in Real Life!” “That cottage!” ❤️ I flew in from being with my dad this week and packed up the car the next day to take the kids to Saugatuck—a storybook preview of Michigan’s finest season almost here. Soaking it in…joy. by @etst

I returned home from Tampa this morning after being by my dad’s side through a very big surgery and months of our family huddling close. I’m weepy with gratitude for the outcome, for how much I love my family, for the way healthcare staff can feel like Jesus when you’re vulnerable, and for this very tender place of being sandwiched between parents you love getting older and kids who still need you. My dad is doing great, has all the nurses laughing (“I tell them I know they’re trying to see my butt when I’m walking down the hall”), and his surgeon promised me yesterday that he will get him up for a healing Michigan summer as soon as possible. On the flight home today, with a heart slightly flooded, the pilot announced, “If you look out the windows on your right, you’ll enjoy a great view of the SpaceX launch.” Onward. There is more. ❤️ by @etst

From cornsilk pigtails and saddle shoes to mascara and Dandy sweatshirts…19 years of pure joy. Out of all the years, this last one has held me in awe the most. Your strength, your self-awareness, your pushing yourself to be your very best, your loyalty to your own heart and creativity…I’m so proud of you. Happy Birthday, @laine_lo2v4e. ❤️ by @etst

This room just needed one last detail, and @onequince knocked it out of the park (again). Their handwoven jute rug is the perfect neutral with luxury rug quality and softness. #ad #quincepartner @shop.ltk #liketkithttps://liketk.it/6d2Sq🎶 “Only Dreaming” by Alex Blue by @etst

Life Lately…-My thermostat has been switched from air to heat too many times this past week. We are so ready for summer vibes but leaning into cozy fireplace nights to make the best of the waiting period.-Lainey finished her first year of classes (that flew by—why does everything just move faster the older they get?! 😭).-We snuck away up north for a quick weekend getaway and stayed at @alifeonthe45th’s darling Airbnb. -Little joys…Potting plants, spring cleaning, coffee and gym dates with Lainey, summer planning. by @etst

When I was in first grade, I wrote MOM next to “What I Want to Be Someday” on my All About Me poster. I kept a list of baby names in journals (R.I.P. “Stacy” and “Star”), circled my favorite strollers in the JCPenney catalogue and played House for hours with my friends, holding swaddled dolls and acting out what I dreamed my future as a mom would look like. I didn’t dream it would look like this. I didn’t dream I’d be a single mom. I didn’t dream I’d have a folder stashed with IEPS in my file cabinet. I didn’t dream I’d spend my kid’s senior year pulling a wheelchair out of my trunk every morning, snapping wheels on and watching her roll away with a parapro carrying her backpack behind her. I didn’t dream of leaving my sister so many teary voice memos crying “This is so hard.” No little girl writing future baby names in her journal dreams of the middle-of-the-night anxiety spirals that will come with loving them. But she also doesn’t know just how good it’s going to be. Her little brain can’t dream of the details yet—what it feels like to look in the rear view mirror on a road trip just her and those kids, car stuffed to the brim with duffle bags and Jellycats and the games they’ll play together on the floor at the first hotel stop. She doesn’t know how close to heaven her kitchen will feel one night when she’s browning ground beef and Last Friday Night starts playing, and the kids all come to dance with her when she turns the volume up. She can’t possibly imagine how complete she’ll feel when they pile in her bed at night and watch her favorite movie with her for the 37th time. She can’t know the pride of watching those kids stretch toward the world away from her with all their beauty and self awareness that she helped them build. We did this, we’re doing this.I didn’t dream it would look like this, but for every hard story of motherhood I wouldn’t have chosen, there’s a complementary chapter of joy and meaning not even the best writers could think to include in a story without having lived it.Happy Mother’s Day to us. Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms living different stories than what we dreamed but full of magic and love and secrets to joy. by @etst
