Two years ago tonight, I worked my last event at The Skirvin Hilton Oklahoma City.

Luxury weddings.
Corporate galas.
Twelve-hour days in heels.
Managing details no one else even noticed.

And honestly… I was good at it.

There’s a certain kind of pressure that comes with high-end events. You learn how to create atmosphere. Emotion. Experience. You learn timing, presentation, refinement, problem solving, composure.

What I didn’t know then was that those same skills would follow me into an entirely different life.

Two years ago, I walked away from stability and titles and stepped fully into building Etz Modern Vintage.

No guarantees.
No roadmap.
Just vision, instinct, and a garage full of furniture.

Since then, there have been moments of exhaustion, doubt, risk, growth, creativity, reinvention… and moments where I’ve stood back and realized:

I’m not just refinishing furniture.

I’m building a life that actually looks like me.

That’s the real success story.

It's pretty special to create another piece for a home that already holds your work.

This is my third piece for one of my favorite clients—and this one was a big one. It's dramatic, tailored and will be completely at home in her space!!

This one also happened to become my piece for the Ivy Lane High Gloss Challenge, which made pushing the finish just a little further even more fun.

But my favorite part will always be seeing these pieces become part of a client’s home, one commission at a time.

A couple of years ago, I showed this client some of my work. She looked at it, then pulled up the work of another furniture artist and showed it to me.

High gloss. Bold. Completely different from what I was doing at the time. I wasn’t offended. I was intrigued.

I remember looking at it and thinking: I need to know how to do THAT.

Not copy or compete with it. I wanted to learn the skill well enough to eventually take it somewhere of my own.

So I did.

Learning high gloss completely changed the trajectory of my work. And somewhere along the way, it gave me the confidence to stop asking whether an idea was too much and start asking whether I could actually pull it off.

This chair is the full-circle version of that story.

It’s not really about the chair.

It’s about what happens when something shows you there’s another level—and you decide to go get it.

A few stills of this stunning piece!

This client was an artist... her inspiration was gold like the sun at sunset and dark like the midnight sky. We added the gorgeous @artandforge hardware in burnished brass to match the sun vibes.

Vintage Secretaries are always a yes! Tuck them into tight spaces, use them in the entry, or use them as a desk! The versatility is endless and designing them is FUN! by @etzmodernvintage

ART for ART

ART FOR ART.

A while back, I saw Lea Ellermeier's work shared by Scooped in Dallas and immediately thought:

I need my furniture photographed with her art.

Her use of color brings me an unreasonable amount of joy, and I could already see her paintings alongside one of my high-gloss pieces—two distinct mediums belonging in the same room.

Then Lea reached out to me about refinishing this carved chest.

As we talked through the project, I proposed an idea: instead of simply refinishing the piece, we could trade art for art.

Lea trusted me with the chest, which we finished in everyone's favorite Orange.

In exchange, two of her paintings came home with me.

The best part is seeing them together now. Her work and the furniture don’t compete or serve as backdrop. They play off each other.

Color. Movement. Detail. Gloss. Joy.

Two artists. Two mediums.

A little softer than our usual—and I just love it.

This vintage dresser was designed for a nursery, with the prettiest soft green finish and delicate brass details. Sweet enough for a baby’s room, timeless enough to live beautifully well beyond it.

We out so honored to be a part of this special space & so excited for our clients new adventure.
