Today, 3 October, we celebrate the Day of German Unity with our German colleagues serving in EUFOR Althea.
A day that commemorates the reunification of Germany and a reminder of what can be achieved when people stand together.
Today, German soldiers stand alongside colleagues from across Europe, serving together in Bosnia and Herzegovina and contributing to peace and stability.
One team. Shared purpose.

Before the call for help comes, the real work has already begun.
In the mountains, every minute can matter.
Thirty mountain rescuers from across Bosnia and Herzegovina joined EUFOR aviation personnel for joint Search and Rescue training practising helicopter hoist operations, casualty evacuation and the procedures that can make all the difference in a real emergency.
Five teams. One shared purpose.
To be ready when someone needs help.
For experienced rescuers, it was a chance to strengthen coordination. For young volunteers, it was an opportunity to gain vital experience working with helicopters.
Because rescue is not about one team working alone.
It is about knowing each other, trusting each other and being ready to act together.

Books, stories, children and a few EUFOR uniforms in between.
Tuzla recently became a meeting place for thousands of readers, authors, publishers and visitors at the 3rd Book Fair “Tuzla 2026”.
EUFOR was proud to be part of the event, meeting local communities and introducing visitors to Operation Althea and EUFOR’s role in supporting a safe and stable environment in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The youngest visitors had a particularly good time joining creative games and activities with EUFOR soldiers, while the EUFOR medical team demonstrated basic first-aid skills and showed how a quick response can make a real difference in an emergency.
With books bringing people together across generations and backgrounds, the fair was more than an event about literature. It was a celebration of community, learning and connection.
From the pages of a book to a conversation with a stranger every connection starts somewhere.

12 weeks. 35th class. 200+ new beginnings.
More than 200 young men and women have successfully completed their Basic Military Training at the “Zaim Imamović” Barracks in Pazarić.
COS EUFOR, Brigadier General Traian Maghercă, joined them for this special moment. Behind every uniform is a story, a choice and a commitment to serve. Today, they celebrated what they achieved. Tomorrow, a new chapter begins.

COM EUFOR, Major General Maurizio Fronda, welcomed a delegation of senior Latvian journalists to Camp Butmir.
The delegation received a briefing on EUFOR Operation Althea, including its mandate, contribution to a safe and secure environment and cooperation with the authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina and international partners.
The visit provided the journalists with first-hand insight into EUFOR’s role and activities while supporting informed and fact-based reporting on developments in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

SIPA recently conducted training in Campy Butmir, supported by EUFOR's Aviation Detachment to rehearse Fast Roping insertion from the CH-47 Chinook. This method of insertion when combined with the large capacity of the Chinook allows for the rapid insertion of up to thirty personnel without the need to land.
Training activities such as these enhance the interoperability between EUFOR and Law Enforcement Agency partners, strengthening EUFORs ability to continue to support the maintenance of a safe, secure and stable environment for all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina. by @euforbih

Today, the Chilean military contingent in EUFOR Althea proudly celebrated their 216th anniversary of National Day on September 18, 2026. Chilean National Day, known as Fiestas Patrias, is celebrated to commemorate the establishment of the First National Government Junta in 1810, marking the start of Chile’s independence process.
We are proud to serve alongside the dedicated personnel from Chile within the EUFOR Althea operation.

Different perspectives build a better operational picture.
COM EUFOR, Major General Maurizio Fronda, addressed participants of the UN Women, Peace and Security Summer School at the University of Sarajevo.
Speaking on “Women, Peace and Security in the Contemporary Security Environment,” COM EUFOR highlighted how the inclusion of women and engagement with all parts of society strengthens situational awareness, community trust and operational effectiveness.
Across Bosnia and Herzegovina, EUFOR’s LOT Houses and mixed-gender teams engage directly with communities, helping the mission understand different perspectives and identify concerns that may otherwise be missed.
COM EUFOR also highlighted the progress achieved by the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina and stressed that integrating the Women, Peace and Security agenda remains a command responsibility within EUFOR.
“Integrating WPS into our daily operations enhances our mission success.”
