It is difficult to believe that four weeks have passed since the start of our last exhibition, and that our newest exhibition is already up on the walls! Titled after one of the evocative pieces by Dagmar Cyrulla, 'I remember when', the exhibition focuses on the human figure and landscape across paintings, works on paper, and sculpture by the represented and invited artists of Lennox St. Gallery.

Artists include Tom Adair, ADNATE, John Baird, Jason Cordero, Dagmar Cyrulla, Louise Feneley, Dianne Gall, Martin George, Karan Hayman, Mark Howson, Dean Home, HUSH, Jill Kempson, Wayne Magrin, Dan McAuley, Ross Miller, Louis Pratt, and Loribelle Spirovski.

Please join us for the launch of the exhibition on Saturday, 17 October, 2-4pm.
The exhibition will be on view at the gallery until Saturday, Nov 7.

It is a visually stunning show - for further information, please DM me, drop by the gallery, or visit the gallery's website @lennoxstgallery

I enjoyed the Cartier exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria more than I expected. The exhibition design was quite erudite, with individual vitrines centred around an aesthetic influence, including Russia, India, or Egypt, or stones and materials, including sapphires, emeralds, amethysts, or opals. The evolution of design, including delicate late nineteenth century brooches and the exquisitely striking Art Deco pieces, was also elegantly traced. A separate display case was dedicated to the collection of their famous 'large cats' designs, and, of course, there was the tiara room, arranged ingeniously as to make them appear floating in the air.

The sheer craftsmanship and ingenuity behind individual pieces were outstanding (of course). A special shout-out goes to the lighting design team: the intricate shadow play enhanced the ethereal aesthetics of the exhibition.

Among stand-outs in the exhibition (which is no mean task to choose given four hundred pieces on display) include undoubtedly the sixteenth-century carved Mughal emerald; the leopard seated on a giant cabochon sapphire; and a tiara with delicately-tinted aquamarines.

The gallery's layout allows us to display two exhibitions simultaneously. The front rooms frequently showcase group displays of artworks by the gallery's represented and invited artists. 'Transcript in Flux' gathers a selection of pieces by the gallery's abstract painters and sculptors. Collectively, the selection mirrors the plurality of possibilities within the genre of abstraction by artists from across Australia and abroad, from the 1980s to the present day. The artists include Marie Hagerty, Melinda Harper, Matthew Johnson, Elliot Watson, Saxon Quinn, Stephen Brameld & Jay Staples, Augustine Dall'Ava, Braddon Snape, Martin George, Konstantin Dimopolous, Carl Drummond Milne (HUSH), and works from the estates of Robert Jacks and Howard Arkley. It was a truly humbling experience seeing works of this quality by the artists of this stature go up on the walls (or installed in the middle of the gallery), turning the shortlist of names on a sheet of paper into a curatorially coherent and visually dynamic display. The exhibition is on view until this Saturday, 10 October.

Andrew Bonneau's ethereal exhibition of recent paintings and drawings, 'Theatrum Imaginum', continues at our gallery. The exhibition focuses on five major works, which are accompanied by preparatory studies. Collectively, they demonstrate Andrew's process-driven methodology, from individual studies of figures and drapery, to more complex compositions in pencils, washes, and oils.

The works also demonstrate Andrew's encyclopedic knowledge of cultural traditions and iconographic precedents from across the globe, as he incorporates, seamlessly, elements from Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Indian, and South-East Asian visual vocabulary.

My humble photos barely do his works justice. The exhibition has to be experienced in person to appreciate the details, the variety of scale, and subtle and complex colour harmonies within Andrew's art.

The exhibition is on view until Saturday, 10 October.

It is truly incredible how, every four weeks, the gallery is transformed almost completely with every new exhibition.

Please join us this Saturday, 19 September, 2-4pm, to celebrate the launch of our newest exhibitions, 'Theatrum Imaginum', paintings and drawings by Andrew Bonneau, and 'Transcript in Flux', paintings and sculptures by the gallery's abstract artists.

Both exhibitions will be in view until Saturday, 10 October.

I had about an hour to spare before my flight back to Melbourne. A normal person would've gone to the Circular Quay for a glass of an afternoon rosé in Sydney's balmy weather, whereas I rushed over to the Circular Quay to squeeze in just one more art experience - 'Not a Souvenir', Tony Albert's survey exhibition at the MCA. The much needed glass of rosé had to wait until Melbourne.

First impressions from the 2026 edition of Sydney Contemporary - and, needless to say, huge congratulations to the organisers, artists, and their respective galleries on this special tenth anniversary edition of the fair. It is always so humbling to be surrounded by so much artistic talent and so much dedication from galleries' staff - no mean feat to be on your feet six days running, from Tuesday's install to Sunday's demount!

This carousel, methinks, includes booths of Gow Langsford, Neon Parc, Annandale Galleries, APY, Sabbia, Rosslyn Oxley, Sally Dan-Cuthbert, The Commercial, Australian Galleries, Cassandra Bird, Station, Michael Reid, Michael Browne, and Ames Yavuz... to be continued...

No trip to Sydney, however brief (mine was only six hours), is complete without a visit to the White Rabbit Gallery. Their growing collection of contemporary Chinese art is always reimagined through a series of thought-provoking, challenging, and confronting exhibitions, demonstrating the breadth of thoughts and ideas, diversity of cultural and historical influences, and the boldness and excellence of creative output. Their current exhibition, 'Black Myth', on view until 15 Nov 2026, is no exception.

Yesterday's flying visit to Sydney, starting with Nanda Hobbs's generous Friday morning tradition of post-Art Fair launch recovery / pre-Art Fair drinks, with a number of the gallery's artists in attendance and their works on display throughout the gallery, upstairs viewing rooms, and back alley murals.
