Sometimes the hardest part of the journey is realizing that you can give everything you have and still be overlooked, delayed, or forgotten.

But being forgotten never meant I was insignificant.

I taught full-time, pursued this degree at night, cared for my family, carried the weight of inheritance, and honored the legacy of my grandmother, who earned her own master’s from Teachers College decades before me but was never afforded the opportunity to walk across that stage.

There were moments when I felt invisible. Moments when the weight of simply surviving threatened to overshadow everything I was accomplishing.

Still, I did not fold.

Because the truth is, a piece of paper was never going to make me valuable. It could only confirm what was already there.

The world has already been blessed with my mind, my work, my resilience, and my purpose.

Today, I finally received the receipt.

Dear Mother,

I don’t know how I’ve made it this far without you. I’m growing up and transforming, day by day, into what you knew I could be. I’ve seen the world and most of its people, explored every nook and cranny, letting your curiosity be my guide. I’ve mapped out things I like, while never being afraid to try what I don’t know. I’ve had great jobs and terrible ones, always remembering to push for my dream. I’ve loved, been loved and felt the pain of breaking a heart, so I know what not to do-ever again. I’ve been broke as heck, but wealthy with life and friends who care about me. I’ve had the honor of watching your parents live there golden years together, more in love than ever before. I’ve seen your husband (my pops) even learn how to play the guitar at 63. We still take care of your garden bc the life you planted in the ground so many years ago, is still growing and coming back stronger every year. I could go on for days about the things that are happening down here, but you already have the best view of things. I just want you to know, I’m here because of you, living my best life with you inside of my heart.
Happy Mother’s Day my Angel & to everybody out there who have lost the irreplaceable ones they call mother. Today is for you ✨✨🕊❤️❤️
