Veteran fencing took centre stage in Tbilisi today as athletes, coaches and fencing leaders came together to discuss the future of the sport beyond 40!🤺🇬🇪

The discussion focused on:
🔺Keeping athletes connected to fencing throughout their lives
🔺Supporting women’s participation as athletes move into veteran categories
🔺The role veterans can play in clubs as mentors, coaches and leaders
🔺Adapting coaching and training for mature athletes
🔺Expanding access to competition across the four continents

The FIE identified four key priorities: equipment, access, coaching and inclusion, alongside stronger regional competition pathways and support for National Federations developing 40+ programmes.

What a kick off for the Eurofence League season in Colmar!

Nearly 600 fencers took to the pistes, with 367 male and 231 female competitors battling for the first Eurofence League titles of the season.

In the end, France’s @louismarie_alexandra and Italy’s @riccardo_cedrone claimed the respective gold medals.

Congratulations to the winners and all the participants, and a big thank you to the organisers for their continued efforts and the improvements made to the event. #fencing #escrime #scherma #fechten #esgrima by @eurofencing

Get @reshare_app • @brisbane2032 THE EMBLEMS ARE HERE 🙌🔥

Consider this your official reveal 😉

Inspired by our reef, beaches, hinterland and everything in between, they bring together the places, people and spirit that will take us to 2032.

And yes… that little character is a cockatoo!

Distinctive. Unmistakably Queensland. And just a little bit cheeky.

The FIE Veteran Fencing Roundtable takes place on 8 October at 15:00 at the Hualing Hotel in Tbilisi, right before the Veteran World Championships!🤺

The theme is “Fencing for Life: Building Veteran Fencing Around the World,” and the goal is practical: how to keep fencers 40+ in the sport, and how to bring back the many former fencers who want to return but are held back by equipment, coaching, facilities or travel costs.

On the programme:

🔹Speakers from Europe, Africa and the Americas on where veteran fencing stands in their regions
🔹A new “How to Build a Veteran Fencing Programme” handbook
🔹The launch of the Donate Your Fencing Gear initiative
🔹A proposed pilot for Veteran World Cups within the Continental Zones

📨 You don’t need an established veteran programme to take part. Federations just starting out may well have the most useful questions.

If you work in a national federation, coach veterans or compete yourself, please join us!

Today marks the beginning of the European Week of Sport.
Sport is much more than competition.
It brings people together, creates opportunities to grow, teaches respect and discipline, and contributes to healthier and more connected communities.
This is why initiatives such as the European Week of Sport are so important.
They remind us that physical activity belongs to everyone, regardless of age, background or level of experience.
For the European fencing community, this message has a special meaning.
Every first step into a fencing club can become the beginning of a journey, one that builds confidence, friendships and values that remain far beyond the piste.
During this week, I encourage our federations, clubs, athletes, coaches and the entire fencing community to share that spirit and help more people discover the joy of being active.
There is no single way to move, participate or enjoy sport. #fencing
Find yours and #BeActive your way.
