We recently got Unconscious Mind back to the table for a few plays. It had been well over a year since our last play and relearning it was a bit of a chore. It’s really great, but far from the most intuitive game. There are a lot of different systems at play and each one has some very specific rules and/or sequences. Our first game was a bit rough and we made some rules errors, so we decided to run it through again with all the right rules. The second was a much smoother and satisfying experience and reminded us why we really enjoy it.

There is quite a bit going on in Unconscious Mind and it's certainly an involved game to learn. We have played it only at two and I’m not sure I would want to add more players as there is already quite a bit of downtime. Especially, during a treatment turn which has a lot of steps/potential combos and you will need to replace each client that you cured that turn as well.

Overall, the puzzle is an interesting one although it can be a little unwieldy at times due to how you decide to build your player board with notebook tiles. It is satisfying to treat the clients and I find that the worker placement puzzle is a lot of fun. I really believe that the visuals and theme add so much to this game that push it from good to great. It might be a while before we revisit it, but I’m looking forward to once again getting lost in this world.

I kickstarted Endeavor: Deep Sea back in 2023 and was eagerly anticipating its arrival. I’m not sure exactly what made me feel this way at the time, but I was certain that it was going to be a perfect game for me. It was probably a combination of the theme, a bright colorful ocean to explore, the positive player interactions, and the very varied missions.

Each player represents a scientific research team that is exploring the depths of the ocean, conserving the environment, and contributing to research journals.

In each session you will have a different mission that provides the objectives/goals for the game. There will be a different starting set up of ocean tiles, maybe some special rules, and a unique impact board on which you will gain bonuses. You begin with just a few ocean tiles in the play area, but over the course of the game you will discover more and more by using the sonar action. Whenever you take this action you will draw 2 tiles from a particular depth and will be able to choose which one you will place and where. This is a really fun choice since you get bonuses for placing the tile, but you are also determining what actions will be possible in the future and where the tile will go. The dynamic exploration of the ocean really comes together in a meaningful and satisfying way.

We have played all of the missions (10 I believe) at least once and they really add a great deal of variety. Each one has a very brief thematic introduction to set the scene and provide some context for what you are attempting to do and why. It works really well and further emphasizes the exploration aspect as I always look forward to learning about the next mission. It is also just enough to get you into the game without getting in the way.

Overall, Endeavor: Deep Sea is a wonderful and thoughtfully designed medium weight euro. The theme, production, mission structure, and ocean exploration is outstanding. The game does so much right and is truly deserving of the praise it has so far been showered with. I can’t recommend this game highly enough and strongly suggest that you explore it for yourself.

Hello all! We just wanted to officially introduce ourselves. I’m Chris and this is my wife Marielle. We are avid board gamers and rock climbers (indoor). We actually met at a board game meetup over 10 years ago and have been playing together ever since. We are mostly fans of euro games (hence the Euro Goodness name), but play many others as well. I started this account (along with the YouTube channel and BGG blog) to connect and be more involved with the hobby that I love. I just wanted to thank everyone in the community for their kindness and support! I hope you enjoy the content that I create and I look forward to sharing more.😉 Please feel free to reach out to chat about games. 🎲😊

Entropy is a medium-heavy euro game that was released at Gen Con this year by Board and Dice. We have now played it 5 times, all games were at 2-players. I was really looking forward to this game because of the designers, publisher, and the overall aesthetics. In Entropy, you take on the role of an apprentice taking a final exam. You are in a simulation attempting to prove that you can successfully create new solar systems complete with stars, planets, biomes, and ultimately life. Although the premise sounds a lot like Civolution, I assure you that these games are extremely different. In all honesty, I had to look up the premise to find out that we were supposed to be taking an exam…so it doesn’t come through all that much. The theme and setting of creating a solar system certainly does though and works very well.

This has become one of our favorite games of the year as it is just a joy to play. The rondel brings great tension as you try to balance benefits and efficiency. The card play is fantastic with each card requiring certain tags/life to be present. The tags required are found on the stars, planets, and asteroids. You can also discard one card with a matching tag to help satisfy the requirements. The biomes are essentially special abilities that trigger when you land on certain actions making them better. The decisions are crunchy and will burn your brain a bit at times, but it is so satisfying to be able to pull off a crazy combo of playing cards and gaining benefits that trigger other actions. Visually, this is one of the best games on our table in the last few years. The stars and planets look great, the life cards are varied and very alien, and the biomes are gorgeous. The biomes specifically remind me of some of the art in Voidfall….high praise indeed.

Overall, Entropy is one that will see consistent plays in our collection and is one of the best of the year. I highly recommend you check it out if this sounds like a game for you.

We were finally able to get the Lost Fleet expansion for Gaia Project to the table. This adds 4 new factions along with new technologies, bonus tiles, and of course the lost fleet. The main feature here is the addition of 3 or 4 lost ships (depending on player count) that you can use your new probes to board as an action. There are new tiles that are added to the board that contain a hex representing each ship as well as new asteroid and proto planets. You will generally spend points to board the ships and you can only board 1 less than the amount you play with so you are forced to choose which one to ignore. Once you have a probe on board, you will be able to take power and QIC actions from these ships as well as acquire technology tiles, federation tiles, or artifacts (powerful one time actions). The ships replace the QIC actions that were previously on the main board so you will have to utilize the ships if you want to use them. This adds a really interesting decision as you can incorporate these ships into your strategy, especially since you might have the ship all to yourself and not have to worry about others taking actions or tiles from you. We played with 2 of the new factions that were pretty interesting as they don’t really have a home planet and the cost to terraform is fixed at either 1 or 2 steps. There are also new uses for the gaiaformers as you can permanently discard them to place on asteroids or use new actions to gaiaform a transdim planet immediately without spending/locking up power in the gaia bowl area or having to wait a round. Overall, everything included here is great and once added I will likely always play with the Lost Fleet expansion.
