As an Apostle d’Aligoté there are not words in good English or bad French that can express the feels following the @lesaligoteurs and @lescinsonautes event in Corgoloin earlier this week 🐊 šŸš€ a thrilling opportunity to taste nearly 100 different expressions of Aligoté as the early years of my wine career were spent struggling to find one to put on the retail shelf…

~ we spent the day before calibrating with cellar pulls @domaineclotildedavenne
~found a long time moment in the making with @ph_rougeot to discuss the ways that the group is supporting future plantings and innovative changes in law that we will see in the future
~ @barthassade showing us what Aligoté does in a very unexpected place
~ new to the scene & classic staples I’ve drank for years were all in the mix @maisonarnaudboue @jeremyrecchione @domaine_garcia @ledomainededouard @gouffier.vins @domaineponsot #taupenotmerme ~ just to name a few

It was a heart bursting memorable experience that will keep me grinning and experiencing my own sort of moon joy for years to come. I am honored to count myself a part of the group that has supported Aligoté to its new frontier āœØšŸ’ššŸ„‚onward and upward. by @eva_zorad

If you’ve gotten to know me personally along this wine journey, you’re probably aware of my decade plus obsession with Aligoté. For many years it was tough to even find one to put on the shelf.Ā Ā Now, as the perspective and availability has begun to change, I’m beyond excited to taste every bottling of this grape.Ā Ā For me, it’s a great transport of vineyard terroir with a lovely balance of texture and acidity. ~~~
Régionale AOC, Bourgogne Aligoté established 1937. But more so known in the back half of the twentieth century as a ā€˜tear out’ grape in Burgundy thought at the time to be ā€˜generic’. This meant that after the 1950s the grape wasn’t ever really replanted. Any replantings were not in the great vineyards of the CoĢ‚te d’Or where it had previously been, but on the plains.Ā Ā Chardonnay instead became the dominant grape of the region. (No hate in that game here, we’re talking my desert island wines)Ā Ā Thankfully there are old vineyards remaining in unexpected places and a new crop of vignerons giving #Aligoté due props. Looking forward to all the future bottlings there will be to try!

Election Day 2025. Feeling hopeful and dutiful I made a voting plan for this morning. As a busy mother of two and independent business owner I have mostly voted by mail for almost a decade as the timing or childcare was never easy to organize. This year I felt a need to make it in person. As we got our shoes on in preparation to walk my youngest to school and then over two blocks to my assigned polling place, the phone rang. A call from our BoE. Our elementary school, also a polling site, had just had a bomb threat (later I would find out it was one of three in our district). WTF is wrong with people. Silently I fought back most of the tears and rage trying to keep it cool so my daughter didn’t know the extent of the situation, trying not to just give up completely. I gathered myself, gave them time to sweep the building. Full of rage, shock, fear, PRIDE and DUTY to my fellow americans I took my daughters hand and savored every second of the walk to school this morning, she requested ā€˜the rainbow connection’ so I sang it out thru the neighborhood, letting my freedom ring. And I voted. And I still believe we’ll find a way back to the civil liberties and respect we all deserve as Humans. I know there’s plenty of dark days ahead during these next several years, but I still have HOPE. Please take yours and VOTE.
… What’s so amazing that keeps us stargazing
And what do we think we might see?
Someday we’ll find it, the rainbow connection

šŸ„‚CRÉTÉ CHAMBERLIN CHAMPAGNE
It is an honor to introduce a new name in Champagne, albeit a name with over 300 years of vine growing history in the CoĢ‚te des Blancs & Valleé de la Marne.Ā Ā
Siblings Mathieu & Blandine Crété, 8th generation independent winemakers in the village of Moussy, represent the work and will of that heritage @champagnecretechamberlin
🌱 ā€˜It all starts with the vine’ is their guiding principle as they care for vineyards across 11 villages including Les Mesnil and the oldest lieu-dit in Oger, ā€˜Terre de Noël’ planted in 1903.Ā Ā With an average vine age of 60yrs, most are planted with massal selection of very old vines and are single-plot vinified.
šŸ„‚ Next week we invite you to join us in exploring these limited and delicious Premier Cru & Grand Cru cuveés with Mathieu & Blandine when they visit the NY / NJ Market!Ā Ā The family’s philosophy of independence and respect for nature has been foundational in their focused and attentive approach leading to the first US releases and we are thrilled to introduce them to all of you.
šŸ—“ļø Mark your calendar ~ Tasting Salon @ Terroir Tribeca * Tuesday Oct 14th, 1-3pm *(Industry only)
Please rsvp to admin@bonhomiewine.com by DM or to your Bon’homie ~ if you cannot attend we will bring them to you! by @eva_zorad

Reintroducing.. Henriet-Bazin Blanc de Meunier Brut Faverolles & Coëmy ~ 2019 Mono Parcelle ā€˜La Sente au Berre’
Back in April, On the North Sea of Champagne, in the Vallée de l’Ardre just outside Faverolles & Coëmy we came to an edgy parcel of Meunier ā€˜La Sente au Beurre’ planted in 1984 and purchased by a young, visionary Marie-Noelle in 1994. We walked the top half of the slope looking for chunks of limestone embedded with ancient sea life, our pockets heavy as we reached the top. This slope sits on a dense bench of limestone (the same used to erect the base of the Reims Cathedral) covered in sea fossils and flint stones, the continued natural erosion has pushed the clay soils further and further down the slope. Marie-Noelle only uses the fruit from the top half of the slope for this Millesime bottling of Meunier and sells the fruit from the bottom slope. Since selling out the 2016 vintage we’ve waited patiently and been asked for the wine often and we’re so thrilled that the wait is over.
šŸ„‚ come taste next Tuesday 9/16 at our Salon! taken in Faverolles-Et-CoĆ«my, Champagne-Ardenne, France by @eva_zorad

Earlier this month the Bon’homies took a little trip. We all returned with tales to tell along the sales trail and can’t wait to share them with you!

First stop was in the South of France along the Bassin du Thau with the Allies siblings @domaine.rj
Guillaume with a twinkle in his eye alongside Marion’s confident knowing smile showed us their dedication to nature around each bend of the wooded path thru their vineyards. We had a hyper local taste of the sea with fresh 2024 Picpoul de Pinet, reserved our allotment of Piquepoul Noir (first vintage!) and discovered a few other exciting wines to introduce to the US soon. It’s been a cool and muddy start to the season in the Languedoc as they’ve already received about half of the average yearly rainfall equivalent in just three months, on track to end a 3 year drought.

Arrived back home right on time for Spring. This lilac was the first thing I planted when we moved to NJ ten years ago (😱). I grew up in lilac thickets, it’s my favorite aroma signifying spring renewal. Enjoying the early, blurry, jet lagged mornings and patio life evenings. We can smell the lilacs all the way around in the backyard! by @eva_zorad

Shared what I think is my last bottle of @domaineclotildedavenne 2017 Aligoté with @billeaston and @angelamdw (and a couple lucky folks on the sales trail day 2). The mouthwatering acidity was still pumping alongside some notes of development. I šŸ’šthis wine. #aligotbae

It was a delight to spend a climate chaos afternoon tasting with Niklas Welter @weingut.spaeter.veit seeing immediately how his confidence and experience has grown since our last visit in 2019. While rain clouds and a bit of hail blew thru we tasted a forensic line up of Riesling, each so distinct in character. A result of the patchwork of soils, a winemaking style guided by the fruit and a passion for Riesling as it ages. Native ferments this year ran thru March. Recently bottled, the 2023’s were pure joy in the glass, showing a marked florality across the line. it was obvious from one whiff when another vintage was poured. Niklas feels it’s a ā€˜classic’ vintage such as ’08/’12 with mostly ā€˜normal’ conditions, touch earlier harvest due to rains, and the blessing of Piesport ripeness to balance. 2023 yielded almost no Pinot Noir, as I hesitate to report how tasty the ā€˜Rose’ was..

An update on Pinot Noir is a must as the winery enters its 30th year since Heinz planted their first red vines in Piesport. They have added a vineyard in Wintrich and our experience of vintages 2015-2020 shows a progression of experience and climate intervention. A gourmand style of Pinot - vibrant, saline, intense herbal through line, structure and a bouquet pheromonally calling for the hunter/gatherer.

As we finished tasting, we got a moment of sun and headed up to the Goldtröpfchen ā€˜Armes’ plot. I could have stayed forever, sun warming us against the slate, swans in the Moselle far below, smiles all around.
