In some exceptional birthday week news I’m so excited to officially share that my feature film, Something Has Died in the Forest (ЩОСЬ В ЛIСI ЗДОХЛО) has received @screenaustralia development funding for me to write the second draft. 🙏
This film is my essentially my baby and means so much to me, I made a short of it during my time at VCA and wrote the feature essentially locked in a room during lockdown in Melbourne surrounded by one thousand post-its and Ukrainian folk music. It’s dedicated to my most beautiful grandmother - my baba Anna, who would have had her birthday yesterday - the day before mine.
The absolute biggest cuddle of gratitude to everyone at Screen Australia (including the most beautiful @imogramogen 💕). It means so much to be able to be supported and write tackle this wonderful beast of a script with your belief in it too.
The other two people (aside from all my beautiful friends who have supported me in many ways along the way) I want to say a little thank you to are my mum, for always believing in me and being essentially the most generous and loving person on earth.
And also incredible @lynnevincentmccarthy with whom I have been deep diving and going on the journey with for this script. I’m so honoured to have Lynne on board and feel like not only am I lucky enough to have her brain alongside mine for the ride but also to have made a true friend.
And finally, it’s my BIRTHDAY today, and I’ve been in Portugal with my soul wife @viegas.sofia who turned 30 TWO DAYS AGO. HASHTAG LIBRAQUEENS. Secret video of her singing like an angelic dove for reference. No where else in the world I would want to be to celebrate our birthdays. 💫
So - if anyone has gotten this far, I have also shared a picture of my cat Losh in a birthday party hat that my mum send me today because it’s bloody exceptional. #prayforlosh

Very excited to share some stills from the short film “Fisura”, directed by the incredible @evajusttorks .

This project was created during a film residency with legendary filmmaker Werner Herzog and cinematographer Peter Zeitlinger on La Palma. The film explores the recurring nightmare of the island’s devastating 85-day volcanic eruption, which took place three years ago and destroyed or buried nearly 3,000 homes under ash.

Due to toxic gases, the volcano’s surrounding area remained off-limits until just three weeks before our shoot. We were among the first to enter one of the ash-covered houses, a very surreal experience. Meeting those who had lost everything left a deep impression, and we dedicate this small film to them.

Super thrilled to be heading to Iceland for the first time as part of @reykjavikfilmfestival Talent Lab! 🫶
And over the moon that my film Fisura (Fissure in English) that I made in La Palma with my brilliant DP @zeegerverschuren, under the watchful, glinting, mentoring eyes of Werner Herzog and Peter Zeitlinger, will be having its World Premiere there in the Golden Egg competition! 🍳
Fisura was one of the seriously most intense, thought-provoking, wonderful, difficult, exhilarating, connected and epic journeys making a film that I’ve had. And it’s the film I’m most proud of for all of those reasons too.
♥️
Who would have thought making a film in 10 days start to finish on the other side of the world when you don’t speak the language would be difficult! But worth every single second (and yes even the many many many seconds spent trying to dig the car - with our arri strapped in by a seatbelt - out of the ash stuck on the side of the mountain in the middle of the night). 😂
Kind of sweet too that a film made on a volcano about a volcano will have its first screening in such an incredibly volcanic place.
Very honoured to RIFF for selecting me & my film! ✨ And a big yay and thanks to the fabulous @laselvacoop too! 🎆 taken in Reykjavík, Iceland by @evajusttorks

Huge thanks to the amazing @faberwriting at @allenandunwin for a full scholarship placement to write my novel ‘Something Has Died in the Forest’.
I was lucky enough to start this course with them in July after being selected with the wild first little chapter I’d written, and will complete the first draft by June 2027.
Thank you to Allen and Unwin for their very kind support of my writing, and having mentor Kirsten Tranter to keep me on track is incredibly fortunate. 🖊️ by @evajusttorks

Little baba. 🫶
11 years ago today you went off on your next big adventure.
Wish you could talk to me about Ukraine and I’d tell you about the novel I’m writing. Wish we could sit down on the couch and I could hold your hands and look at your rings and you’d tell me the stories about them. Wish you’d chastise me over my poor knitting form. I’m still making that scarf though. Will be done one day. Think I like the knitting though now moreso than what it will one day become.
Hope you’re having a ball up in the clouds. ♥️ by @evajusttorks

Thrilled that FERMENT has been selected as a Finalist for Dream Pitch at Young Director’s Awards during Cannes Lions this year. ✨
It’s a wicked little show I’ve been developing between projects and I’m obsessed with it tbh so it’s a real honour for it to be in the Top 10 internationally. 🖤
A series about alewives, witch hunts, repression, female rage and… beer. As one does.
Very grateful to the wonderful YDA for the support. xx
