Me - December 2024. It’s been a year of reflection and lots of inner discovery. I started journaling, writing, and finally working on my health. I sometimes suffer from extreme anxiety and depression from trauma I never got proper therapy for (iykyk) and I have weeks where I spiral. It’s been hard, and sometimes I feel like I’m just getting worse. But working on my health and doing small things like getting my nails or lashes done, grabbing coffee by the beach, or just walking my dog on longer walks help ground me and appreciate the life I have. I know people make New Year’s resolutions to do better and be better. But I think I’ve started early. I just know 2025 will be a better year.x#breathe by @evaleenenfleur

Last month, I took a little drive to visit the hydrangeas in northern Okinawa. It’s terrifying how quickly dogs can lose their eyesight when glaucoma hits so aggressively. Kili is 9 years old but since shibas are prone to glaucoma and can start as early as 3 years old, I had been anxious about her getting glaucoma for years. I had her eye pressure checked regularly and any time her eyes seemed to bother her, I’d race her to the vet.But then Sunday morning, I woke up to find her left eye shut. By the time I got her seen by the vet, her left eye pressure was 90 while her right eye was 30… 20-25 is the average. Managed to get the eye pressure down to normal levels, but she had already lost vision in her left eye.Now all we can do is try to alleviate the pain in her left eye. Eventually, eye drops won’t work anymore and I’ll have to consider getting her eye removed. I can’t help but feel like I failed her. I wonder at what time in the night it struck her and how she must have been in so much pain while I slept. And even now, I tear up seeing her in pain.If you have fur babies and there’s ever a chance that they’re showing signs of glaucoma(squinting, pawing at the eyes, cloudy eyes), please get them to the vet ASAP.
