It’s been a few months since we piloted our Guest Welcome Packages with local Tourist Accommodation providers. And, over the summer a number of businesses have signed on to offer our products as part of their in-room check-in experience.

As we restock orders for returning customers, and fulfill orders for new customers, we’re excited to hear how these treats have been resonating with locals and visitors.

Our Berry Song Syrup has become a fast favourite with locals and visitors, alike. Why? Because it’s a perfect blend of land and sea; salmon berries, blueberries, lemon, and sea cabbage. Coastal-terroir-meets-merroir.

We sold out this past weekend at the Alberni Fall Fair and are proud to say that it’s back in stock for this weekend’s @uclueletmarket and next weekend’s @vancouverislandexhibition in Nanaimo.

Life on the coast is really about meeting people where they’re at. We have a vast range of skills and backgrounds, and everyone has two or three passion projects. I’ve gotten to know @gordjohnsndp over the years as an expert in bridge-building. I admire Gord’s ability to centre an important topic and then stretch his arms wide to rally folks around it.

While serving on his riding executive, I learned a lot about Gord’s willingness to find commonalities with EVERYONE in the spirit of greater good. Listening with both ears is a key part of leadership and it’s especially true when overcoming difference, disagreement, and chaotic change. ‘Lead by Example’ is a personal value of mine.

It was just over a year ago when we chatted about the potential of seaweed-based food and beverages on the coast. We spoke about the regional challenges and federal pathways to diversifying markets… And, yesterday I was delighted to see Gord’s expression of excitement upon arrival at my @evalina.ca booth at @alberni_fair. Early stage entrepreneurs love hearing the phrase, “WOW, this is awesome, you actually did it!”

Small businesses are the backbone of our coastal economy. From farming, to hospitality, to entertainment, to accommodations, to processing, and to high-tech. This weekend I’ve been commuting to @alberni_fair, selling our Ucluelet-made products and chatting about our coastal economy. It was delightful to speak with fellow seaweed enthusiast, MLA, and provincial Minister of Finance @josie_osborne - In past weeks we’ve chatted about the impacts of tariffs on our coastal community and small businesses.

Relationships are important in our region. Ucluelet can’t do it alone, and I appreciate the great partners we have in surrounding communities who care deeply about our future. In the past, I’ve proudly supported Josie’s riding association as a volunteer, and most recently served as Vice President. During that time I also served as a representative for our provincial standing committee on the environment and the economy, the standing committee on agriculture, and the sexual orientation and gender identity committee.

Last year, I lead the process of drafting, writing, and submitting policy resolutions on behalf of our riding. And, I was pleased when a resolution I submitted for ‘Expanding Vancouver Island port capacity and trade relationships’ was adopted last fall. Our Spiced Kelp Salt is now back in stock after a FUN weekend in Saanich.

1.5 oz Tequila
0.5 oz Mezcal
0.75 oz Cointreau
0.75 oz lime juice
0.25 oz @seajou Tonquin Syrup

Build in a shaker, shake over ice, pour into a coupe with spiced kelp rim salt.

Our final day at @saanichfair - And, what a fair it has been! We always find it illuminating to join fairs, farms, and country markets.

We’re living fully into the role of “Seaweed Sommelier”. What’s been unique about this place is that the majority of guests already have at least one seaweed that they love. And, the very fun part has been exploring and comparing different species of seaweed and aspects of merroir with folks. Truly inspiring to hear and see people falling head over heels with dulse, giant kelp, kombu, sea lettuce, winged kelp, sea lettuce, bull kelp and more! And our favourite part is showcasing great businesses and introducing them to @naasfoods and @npkwild when they ask where a species grows.

And, it’s very great to connect with friends and new fans down here on the Saanich peninsula!
