A little appreciation post for my favourite ingredient! One that makes even the simplest food feel a little more special…adding flavour, richness, antioxidants and so much beauty to every meal 🫒

Here’s to the growers, producers and millers who turn a humble olive into something so delicious, and to all the incredible olive oils I’ve had the pleasure of tasting, drizzling and discovering this year, including some of my favourites shown in this video:

Kinda chic to be an olive oil person 🫒

10 things worth more appreciation (especially #3)

Bonus points if they use regenerative farming practices 👩‍🌾

Especially ice cream. Don’t judge until you try 🍨🫒

Sadly, many oils on the shelf aren’t real EVOO (but those in this picture are very high quality and extremely delicious @odysea_ltd @thegayfarmer 🌈🤍)

Comment if you want tips on how to pick really, high-quality olive oil off the shelf!

Many people don’t realise that each olive oil has its own flavour profile which pairs itself with different foods (just like wine pairs with different dishes) - it’s such an interesting world to dive into if you’re into cooking!

🫒 > 🍷

And discover how different each oil can taste (did you know olive oil can taste fruity 👀)

The best way to taste olive oil! Bonus points if you cough (it’s the antioxidants talking)

And do olive oil shots 🙂‍↔️

The first drizzle of my favourite season 🍂 Seared figs, goat’s cheese and flaky @maldonsalt on @donttelldad_qp sourdough, finished with @citizensofsoil extra rare Tuscan olive oil.

This autumn pairing works so well! The bold, herbaceous Tuscan oil brings such a beautiful contrast to the sweetness of the figs, with a clean, peppery finish that cuts through the richness and tang of the goat’s cheese.

And can we appreciate how beautiful this EVOO bottle is?! The design feels like it was made for this plate 🌞

This olive oil is also very high in polyphenols, with 572 mg/kg measured in last harvest’s testing (well above many everyday EVOOs). Figs bring their own polyphenols too, including anthocyanins and other flavonoids, making this a perfect pairing as we enter the colder months.

October is for orange meals 🍂 Drizzled in one of my favourite olive oils: @pantanellosicily

This Sicilian oil makes the flavours (and look) of this toast shine: it tastes so green, with notes of freshly cut grass and a gentle peppery finish that complements the earthy pumpkin flavours. I first tried it in Sicily this September with some local chefs, and we were all blown away by its taste! It’s an early-harvest oil, high in antioxidants, making it the perfect addition to dishes as we as enter the colder months.

Plate includes:
- Homemade pumpkin spread (roasted pumpkin blended with a dash of honey, salt and pepper)
- Roasted pumpkin (this is a red kuri squash from my farmer’s market 👩‍🌾)
- Sprouted pumpkin seeds (@2die4livefoods_europe)
- Freshly baked sourdough (@donttelldad_qp always)

Part 3 of the monthly drizzle series (shorter this time as I was away amongst the olive trees for 2 weeks), with lots of figs, baked goods and colourful roasted veg as we head into my favourite season🫜🥕🍁🍯

Featuring a lovely line-up of olive oils this month:
🫶 @bonafoodco « Quina » - a beautiful, balanced, slightly floral olive oil which pairs well with both sweet & savoury foods…including the viral date x olive oil recipe (a must try)
🫒 @clyr.evoo - a new, Italian addition to my collection that is fresh, vibrant, with a clean pepperiness…this oil impressed me so much, as well as many guests I’ve served it too!
🌞 @citizensofsoil Extra Rare Tuscan EVOO - my newest oil from this amazing brand that is green, herbaceous and ohhh soo peppery…I love an intense oil and this one is divine!
💚 @attimo.oil Coratina - a bold, bitter oil that is extremely high in antioxidants, which is why I’ll be drizzling it onto many more meals as we enter the colder months

This recipe went viral for a reason 🫒 Dates sizzled and drizzled in really good EVOO, served over yogurt with @maldonsalt flakey salt.

It’s the perfect combination of sweet, salty, creamy and peppery that tastes like dessert but is actually good for you.

The key though, is really good olive oil. @bonafoodco’s « Quina » Arbequina works beautifully here: floral, with a delicate fruitiness that complements the dates’ sweetness. It’s also an early harvest oil, high in polyphenols, giving it a slight peppery kick that cuts through the flavours so well.

The olive oil pourer is also from Bona, one of the prettiest ones I’ve ever seen! Let me know if you’ve tried this oil or this recipe, and whether there are any others I should try🍦 by @evaoliveia

Five olive oils that stood out to me after tasting 20+ oils over the past two weeks, travelling through Sicily and island-hopping across the Aeolian Islands 🌊🌋🫒

This list is, of course, personal and very much a reflection of my own palate, but every one of these oils impressed me in its own way and I’d highly recommend them to any olive oil lover!

Swipe through for the tasting notes, what makes each oil special, and how I’d pair them →

This oil tastes SO green, with a warm, intensely herbaceous character and a peppery kick that speaks to its high polyphenol content. I shared it with a Sicilian chef during my holiday and he could not get over the taste and freshness of this oil, describing it as « Incredibile » and « Fantastico » (and I couldn’t agree more)

It’s made from a blend of Moresca and Nocellara dell’Etna olives, grown among centuries-old olive trees in the Hyblaean mountains around Noto. It’s a genuine all-rounder, good for dipping, drizzling over salads and soups, and finishing fish or meat, and is definitely an oil I will be buying again!

The most famous oil from this list, which has won over 170 awards in the last two decades, and for good reason 💛 It’s made purely from Tonda Iblea olives grown in the Hyblaean Mountains and was the first Sicilian oil to earn Monti Iblei DOP status.

It has a grassy nose and intense taste profile, with notes of fresh herbs, green tomato and a noticeable peppery finish. It’s robust enough to stand up to red meat and rich sauces (think steak, ragu, etc.) but tastes delicious too with bread or fish.

This organic olive oil truly surprised me with its fresh, elegant taste and slight spiciness (a reflection if its high polyphenol content!). It’s the first oil I’ve tasted made from 100% Cerasuola olives, harvested by hand in Agro di Alcamo in Western Sicily, but it definitely won’t be my last 🩵

It tastes sooo good on fresh salads, cheeses, tomatoes and grilled fish 🥗🍅

I had the opportunity to stay on the farm that produces this oil, in Val di Noto, with centuries-old olive trees. It’s much lighter in character than the other oils on this list, with a soft fruitiness and vegetal notes of cut grass. I usually pr by @evaoliveia

An olive oil that defined my summer: @dimos_olive_oil 💙

Vibrant, green, with a peppery kick that elevates even the simplest of dishes, like this perfect tomato toast.

I stumbled across this oil in my local neighbourhood in July and was immediately drawn to the unique blue packaging…how gorgeous! I love how it reflects the colours of Greece, an ode to the early-harvest Koroneiki olives in each bottle 🇬🇷

On top of being beautiful, it is incredibly delicious, with notes of freshly cut grass and a slight pepperiness…the perfect balance between light and intense that pairs so well with many dishes. It’s peppery kick is also a sign of high polyphenol levels, which is always important to me when buying EVOO.

I’ve been drizzling it over everything this summer, from tomatoes to fresh sourdough to Greek salads 🍅

A love letter to my favourite foods 🫒🍅🍞

And a little reminder that olive oil can romanticise any plate…

Featuring a few of my favourite oils right now:
@attimo.oil Coratina - bold and beautifully bitter, a new love of mine that is packed with polyphenols 🇮🇹
@dimos_olive_oil Koroneiki - so vibrant, fresh and peppery, it truly tastes like Greece in a bottle 🇬🇷
@citizensofsoil basil oil - a summer staple! Incredibly herbaceous and sooo good with fresh tomatoes 🇪🇸

🫜🫒🍯 One of my favourite autumn toast combos: rainbow beets, whipped goat’s cheese, honey, @maldonsalt and a drizzle of high-polyphenol @attimo.oil Coratina Olive oil.

Not many people know this, but Coratina-based olive oils are often incredibly high in antioxidants, with this one recording 847 mg/kg of polyphenols at harvest (over 3x what you’d find in most supermarket EVOOs!). Paired with the 🫜, this dish is an amazing way to load up on health benefits as we enter the colder months.

Beetroot + Coratina is also such an underrated flavour pairing: the earthy, slightly bitter taste of beets works beautifully with the bitter, peppery taste of Coratina, while the honey and goat’s cheese bring sweetness to balance it all out.

If I one day open my own olive oil cafe (my dreaaam) this one will definitely be on the menu! by @evaoliveia

The skin glow side dish packed with polyphenols from early harvest olive oil and purple carrots (~9x the antioxidants of orange carrots!) 🥕🌈

Rainbow carrots are a weekly staple I buy at the farmer’s market due to their peppery, earthy taste that pairs well with a lot of my favourite olive oils. I love dressing them with lemon, @maldonsalt and a generous drizzle of high polyphenol EVOO with a peppery profile, my current favourites being:
- @querubi_olive_oil (incredible, >600mg/kg polyphenols)
- @bellaterra_says (Coratina, ~650mg/kg polyphenols)
- @pjkabos (very robust, 699mg/kg polyphenols)
- @pamako_mountain_bioevoo (2081mg/kg polyphenols, one of the highest-antioxidant olive oils in the world)
