šŸ“󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁓ó æ Eva Rothschild recently completed the #RIAResidency in Scotland, spending two weeks at Cortachy.

Reflecting on her experience, Eva said ā€œThe residency gave me the opportunity to drop everything and to spend time without Ā any distractions except the landscape and my work. It was an amazing opportunity to re engage with the simplicity of making and drawing, It also helped me tackle my long term fear of the dark.ā€

Eva has shared some moments from her residency.

šŸ‘€ ā€˜You’re just in a different context, you’re taking a different view.’

For Eva Rothschild, bringing her work to Goodwood Art Foundation means seeing her practice in a whole new light - moving between the gallery, woodland and open landscape, and experiencing each work in a different context.

As Eva puts it:

ā€˜There’s a porous sense of the outdoors, the landscape, but it also allows me to bring together these more intimate works.’

And for Cosmos, the move from the city to the country has transformed its presence:

ā€˜It has been really gratifying. I felt that being among the trees would increase its presence, and it has been exciting to see that crisscrossing, the sense of something linear, but also mobile.’

Take a different view of Eva Rothschild’s work at Goodwood Art Foundation, until 31 October.

🧵The Machine Stops…

Eva Rothschild’s new two-part tapestry fills the Pigott Gallery with bold geometric forms and a vivid spectrum of colour.

Woven by hand in Sussex with the Master Weavers at West Dean Tapestry Studio, the work is made from nine coloured threads twisted into every knot, creating subtle shifts of tone across its surface.

The title nods to E.M. Forster’s ā€˜The Machine Stops’ – a story of a future shaped by climate change and technological dependence.

There’s a neat tension here: a work inspired partly by mechanisation, made using a centuries-old, painstaking process of hand weaving.

For Rothschild, weaving offers a different way of making an image: ā€˜to make something that was like a picture but wasn’t a painting.’
