Can’t believe I’m graduating in 2 days.In 2018, I came to this country speaking no English. At 16, I faced losing my mom to deportation and entering the foster care system. It was survival mode ever since.Today, that chapter is finally closing and all I can say is thank you, God. Tomorrow, I will graduate with my Bachelor’s degree in Business Management with a concentration in Entrepreneurship. Saying that out loud feels surreal like I’m living a dream that once seemed so far away. This milestone is not just about earning a degree. It’s a testimony of resilience, of surviving every closed door, every sleepless night, every doubt, every “no,” and every moment I almost gave up. If you know me, you know the journey hasn’t been easy. I moved to this country as a teenager, I had to grow up fast. I had to figure things out the hard way.And yet, here I am. Graduating.This is for every young Black immigrant girl who feels unseen. For every foster youth trying to hold it all together. For every student who’s working jobs, filling out paperwork, chasing professors, and pushing through overwhelming odds just to earn a seat in the classroom. For everyone who’s ever been told they’re “too much” or “not enough.”To anyone reading this: it won’t be easy. Especially if you come from where I come from. Especially if you look like me or carry the weight I’ve had to carry. But I’m here to tell you—you are capable. You are allowed to dream big. You are allowed to fight for a future that no one else sees for you yet. And you can make it.This degree may have my name on it, but it carries the fingerprints of every person who believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself. Every mentor, every teacher, every friend, and every whisper of faith. And most of all, it carries the fire in me the one that refused to be extinguished.Thank you, God. Thank you to my younger self who kept going. And thank you to the future because I’m coming for everything they said I couldn’t have.This is only the beginning.
