Doing this cello thing and that wine thing and that secondhand store thing
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

In Latvia, storks symbolise fertility. One flying over your house is a blessing. A superstition that gets passed on generation after generation.

But to me they've always been something more.

A beautiful sight in untouched nature. Strolling around the fields in the village, searching for frogs, insects. Their presence alone precedes peace.

It's almost a guarantee that if you see them out, there is a special kind of magic in the air. Foggy mornings. Dusky evenings.

I once counted over twenty in two neighbouring fields, in the middle of my village.

Imagine the sight.

My sister pointed out that she hasn't seen any storks in Sweden. She's right, neither have I.

But whenever I think of my homeland, I know they are there. Majestic as always. And with them, a smell of peppermint tea, of grandma's garden, of crisp September mornings on my way to school, travels the 328 miles across the sea and land.

That's still 2772 to 5872 miles less than storks fly to migrate.

What's homeland to them, I wonder? by @evelinarimkuse

Final batch from a week in Saulheim🌻🐞🍷

All I want to say is: go and experience the world. Take that leap of faith, let yourself feel foolish, test your limits. Give yourself a chance to be a part of a community, to experience what it feels like to do something really(!) together. What it's like to do physical work.

Once again, I find myself beyond grateful for my childhood in the countryside. It's becoming more rare, but it changes everything, later, down the line.

This was the kind of trip where I didn't expect to be changed at all, but somehow returned home a completely different person. Maybe we don't need all these ayahuasca-meditation-retreat kind of things as much as we think we do?

Sure, it's nice. Sure, I haven't done it. Sure, there is value in that too.

But, FUCK, how much humanity and openness can be found between a few rows of vines. How many doors can silently be unlocked within, not even trying.

Whatever happened to potato harvests? Helping friends move? Painting a house together?

Fuck the "I'm gonna go hike for 5 hours alone and optimise every second of my life and also make sure I get all these hobbies in" mindset. No. Nichts.

Get your hands dirty. Make your life so messy that something can actually grow in it. Fertile soil has worms and weed. What are you gonna do with a perfectly mowed lawn?

I wanted to quit so many times. I actually DID quit. It was needed at the time, to rest, to let some parts of me die, to rebuild and to come back to the truth that cello has become a part of me.

It's like a flower that I thought was pretty at the start, but then I realised I had to water it consistently for it to grow, and to be honest... that often felt like too much work.

Especially when there was every single sign of me being tone-deaf, musically dumb and just not talented or determined enough (I don't think I'll ever be nerdy enough to sit in the practice room ALL day).

But I managed to keep it alive enough.

And it's first now, after more than 18 years of playing that I feel this is a flower that's become intertwined with my being without me even realising.

Woven into my path.

Finally starting to bloom in a way that brings pleasure and freedom alongside the hard work.

And now even hard work is beginning to feel more like a game...

How much further can I go?

It's no longer a question of whether I'm capable. It's a question of how many more times I am ready to let my ego die in the pursuit of something greater.

And if you've ever been on a similar path, you know that there is no turning back. You may fool yourself into an ordinary life of distraction and sedation, but there's always that voice, that tingling in the spine.

There's more to live. There's so much more to GIVE.

So you always find your way back.

Maybe it was never a question of time, because time isn't really real. It's a concept. It's the sun and the moon, but God is bigger than that, no?

Time moves at the speed of a decision that you're ready to make. Or a feeling that you're finally embodying. It was never a clock or a year. You decide how fast it goes.

a week in the motherland --- recharged and ready to attack the cello and ride my bike and sell some wine and workout and lay in the grass (very important) and maybe just maybe whisper to myself that anything is possible as i open my eyes every morning. summers are for maximising. trips, nights, mornings, foods, drinks, sunsets, nature, sea, socialising, sleep, coffee, wine, silence, sweat, flowers, berries, play, presence, risk, flow. squeezing out the last drops of surrender. pushing because of curiosity and desire. sun is bold so we can be bold too. taken in Latvia by @evelinarimkuse
