no one writes a duology like @rmgillig 🙂‍↕⚔

i adore The Sheperd King Duology with my whole heart so diving back into another one of Gillig’s atmospheric, dark, unique tales was like returning home. i will forever be obsessed with gargoyles and desperately feel like i need full knight garb at the ready.🧎🏻‍♀

i don’t want to give anything away for those who haven’t started this duology, but this was such an incredible conclusion to the story.

Bartholomew is absolutely hilarious and wise per usual which provided so many light-hearted, inspiring moments despite the heaviness these characters carried. Rory and Sybil deserve the world and more. the main characters go through so much in this book yet the strength they draw not only from themselves individually, but from each other, makes their shared might ever-enduring.🌙✚ by @evenfall.dwelling

𓍊𓋌𝔒𝔠𝔱𝔬𝔟𝔢𝔯 ℌ𝔬𝔭𝔢𝔣𝔲𝔩𝔰𓋌𓍊

my very favorite reading season is upon us! i read horror, paranormal, and gothic books year round but there’s something special about reading them during autumn.

𝔈𝔰𝔠𝔞𝔭𝔢 𝔐𝔢— i told myself i had to finish my september hopefuls before starting this one because i know i’d slip into an even deeper shatter me obsession. i NEED to know what happens next. so this book is first on my list before i dive headfirst into gothic horror.🀪

𝔄 ℌ𝔢𝔪𝔬𝔯𝔯𝔥𝔞𝔀𝔢 𝔬𝔣 𝔘𝔰— i’m so excited about this one. a folk-horror romance with a sentient house, haunted forest, and monstrous love?!🙂‍↕🙂‍↕🙂‍↕

𝔑𝔊𝔀𝔥𝔱𝔰𝔥𝔞𝔡𝔢— everyone has told me i NEED to read this so i knew i had to add it to my hopefuls list. i’m thinking i’ll read it last/the end of october because i have a feeling i’ll need the next book, Daybreak, asap after finishing it.

ℭ𝔞𝔯𝔪𝔊𝔩𝔩𝔞— after reading almost every vampire book inspired by the story of Carmilla, i figured it was high time to read the iconic source material. i found an audiobook version that has Megan Follows as the narrator so now i’m even more thrilled!

𝔚𝔥𝔢𝔫 ℑ 𝔚𝔞𝔰 𝔇𝔢𝔞𝔱𝔥— i read the book description on this one and knew instantly that i needed to read it. i love Alexis Henderson’s books so i can’t wait to dive in!

𝔇𝔢𝔞𝔱𝔥𝔰𝔎𝔬𝔯𝔫—ahhhhhhhhhhhhh🧎🏻‍♀ i’ve been craving this book ever since i received an arc from @megsmitherman .
it felt like the perfect gothic romantasy to read this october and has literally every single one of my favorite tropes🀌🏻✚

what book do you think everyone should read this autumn?

i have ever so many i would recommend but one that has stuck with me throughout the years is The Year of the Witching by Alexis Henderson. i’m obsessed with @lexish writing and this powerful story still remains one of my very favorites!!

“Good people don’t bow their heads and bite their tongues while other good people suffer. Good people are not complicit.”

what do you do to channel all the fall vibes?

i’ve been

🍂 lighting my fall scented candles (my favorites are afternoon apple picking, frozen lake, and wool sweater from BABW at the moment)

🍂finding perfumes i’d like to wear during fall once the temp cools.
-i also ordered a perfume called Ephemera from Sorce which i’m so thrilled about. i’m not a big fan of gourmands or very sweet fragrances in general but the notes are soooo intriguing (carved pumpkin, black soil, brown sugar, notebook paper, acorns, cashmere) and i loved the sample. it smells like how fall used to feel as a child and it’s so atmospheric🥹

🍂reading immersive intriguing books. i’m planning on starting She Haunts Me Still and The Wretched Divine tonight🫶🏻✚

🍂looking forward to fall break. work has been exhausting but fall break is just around the corner which i’m hoping helps me feel more refreshed and allows me to get some much needed free time and relaxation. i hope to paint my bathroom a dark, dramatic red, have a reading picnic by the creek, and visit my goddaughter and best friend lots🫶🏻

🍂romanizing my morning and night routine. this is something i’m still working on but the little changes i’ve made helped make my these routines more intentional and less stressful. having a projector in my room at night to play TVD or PLL or an autumn ambience video in the background while i read or prepare for the next morning has helped me de-stress and do less doomscrolling before bed.🖀 by @evenfall.dwelling

🎃books i recommend reading this fall🎃

whether they be spooky, gothic, angsty, or romantic, these books are some of my favorites, especially for this time of year! there are so many more i’d like to add to this list (might have to make a couple more reel about them) but i physically couldn’t hold any more books😅

are any of these on you fall tbr? by @evenfall.dwelling

🍂𝔎𝔥𝔞𝔱 𝔞𝔯𝔢 𝔶𝔬𝔲 𝔠𝔲𝔯𝔯𝔢𝔫𝔱𝔩𝔶 𝔯𝔢𝔞𝔡𝔊𝔫𝔀?🍂

currently i’m reading:

A Game of Cat and Witch by Ruby Rune- 97%
💭: this story has been so fun!! i’m loving the banter, spice, and sarcastic humor. i’m sad it’s almost over😭 the atmosphere also feels so cozy and autumnal to me. i’m even more excited for fall now (if that’s even humanly possible lol)

Winterveil by Ava Reid - 85%
💭: totalllyyyy different vibe from my other read but i’ve been enjoying this one as well. this story is really intriguing with a dystopian academy setting i’m eating up. i had to pause for a sec because one of characters did something that enraged me🀪

i’m hoping to finish these two and start Your Blood, My Bones and This Wretched Divine this afternoon!

i hope you’re having a gentle start to your week🫶🏻✚ by @evenfall.dwelling

it’s no secret that i love @autumn__krause ’s writing. her books are some of the most unique and fascinating stories i’ve come across, each completely different yet powerful in their own right. The Gods Will Sing Our Song was truly such a beautiful, emotional, devastating story. knowing how personal this story is to the author made me feel even more honored to read it.🀍

Ren and Violet live two completely different lives as they navigate growing up, planning their futures, and finding themselves. their teenagehood is violently interrupted when they are forced to leave their homes and are incarcerated in a Japanese internment camp; making an already tumultuous time in a young person’s life unfathomably arduous.

seeing such an unjust, traumatic time in history through the eyes of teenagers made this story feel even more compelling and potent. when Ren and Violet crossed paths for the first time, they understood each other on such a profound level. their story was FULL of yearning and i absolutely loved their banter and devotion for one another as the book progressed!🥹

i also loved the Japanese folklore and that all the magical elements blended seamlessly into the story. this made the dynamic between Ren and Violet even more intriguing as they worked together to uncover the secrets of the mysterious god they come across and if he can help their loved ones.

The Gods Will Sing Our Song is full of hope, love, and beauty, without shying away from the injustice, trauma, and grief that these incarceration camps inexcusably caused to over 100,000 people.

it’s incredibly apparent how much care and dedication Autumn Krause put into this story, and i am so grateful to have gotten to read it early!

thank you @delacortepress and @netgalley for this arc in exchange for an honest review! by @evenfall.dwelling

how is it already september?!

i read some incredible books last month, and i’m super excited about my hopefuls especially when several are by my favorite authors or the first book i’ve ever read by others. i’m hoping to read more during october, but for now, six books is about all i can manage with work.

it’s scorching and unbearably hot outside where i live but that doesn’t mean i can’t lean into all dark and spooky stories as well as fantasy reads that i’ve been dying to dive into!
