A SB818 (Salt Bath) headed out to California today! The SB818 can take up to a 6” OD pot 18” of usable depth , 24” OAL, max temp 2000° (changeable upon request) equipped with @sdsindustries TAP controller with special software and Solid State relays. The SB 818 is our largest standard production units, we do make up to 54” for customs. These units are awesome, rather dangerous but the results are an incredible heat treat! Truly inert, no “kits” involved #evenheat #heattreatment #knifemaking #knifemakingcommunity #knifemakingsupplies by @evenheatkilns
A new model carving knife in Nitro-V Stainless Steel! My @evenheatkilns oven got it up to the right temperature. This is the difference between high-carbon steel and Nitro-V Stainless Steel. This steel has to be air-quenched in between aluminum plates and rapidly cooled using compressed air! . . . #knife #knives #cookingknife #cookingknives #cooking by @evenheatkilns
Using my @evenheatkilns to heat-treat another high-carbon Serbian Cleaver. I am going for the rustic look on this one again and am excited so far! Stay tuned and have a great weekend! . . . #knife #knives #cookingknife #cookingknives #cooking by @evenheatkilns
A look at the heat treating process the Nitro V blades went through after being foil wrapped. A preheat cycle, an austenitization cycle, and a plate quench transforms these pieces of steel into knives. The liquid nitrogen treatment continues the hardening process after the plate quench, increasing the potential hardness and strength. All that’s left is a couple tempering cycles to relieve internal stress and improve toughness while maintaining the hardness needed for a durable edge. The @evenheatkilns comes to temp fast and maintains consistent temperature for the soak times 👌 Shoutout to @stevecallaricustomknives for sharing some experience with me. Much appreciated. #knifemaking #customknives #diy by @evenheatkilns
