Confession booth time:
I regretted opening my studio somewhere around year 3, even though it was doing well.
I thought I was building the dream: the studio, the small-business life you see everywhere online... I wanted it too! Then I got it, and then I thought it took my freedom.

Everything looked like it was working. The New York Times featured us, we were in Aman and Auberge, which are very fancy hotels that I can’t even afford to stay at for one night... BUT I was tired every single day, tied to a thing I built myself and I couldn’t tell anyone about it because, shouldn’t I be happy that all these things were happening?

I started missing my old life, back when it was just my cat and I in our tiny apartment studio. I enjoyed making content because I was inspired everyday.

Jump forward to this summer, I seriously considered closing the business. But then I thought about all the amazing people along the way: The team, that has helped built Even Keel to what it is today, friends I’ve made at pop-ups and trade shows, and of course, my customers... YOU!

And so, I made a major decision. Instead of continuing to expand, I decided to scale the studio way back down. To just me... and my sister, Lauren :)

I also decided to leave New York, my home for 18 years, and move to California for a fresh start, bringing me closer to my personal desire of having nature easily accessible.

I know nothing magically fixes itself but by making intentional moves to the life I want, I can at least get closer towards happiness and a sustainable path.

The journey is what you make it... and I kinda want to be happy in it. It’s a simple ask in our everyday lives, but we often ignore our little voice to keep up with “adulting.”

SO thank you for everyone that’s listened and for supporting Even Keel. Hopefully I’ll have more bandwidth for moments like this in the future and you’ll be seeing more of me, like this, very soon!

…Just 1 hulken and 2 ratchet straps — that’s all it takes to carry our entire booth setup now! It used to be the whole back of my car 😆 I know I’m not the only one that gets a kick out of efficiency!
Thank you to Shoppe Object, to the familiar faces who keep showing up, and to the new ones we got to meet.
It’s been a lot of work — and a lot of fun.

Crafted with intention, Even Keel is the kind of gift that carries the maker’s hand. Build a gift they’ll actually use—choose the scents, add a handwritten note, and we’ll deliver it presentation-ready.
