Ode to My Goggles

Oh goggles, my beloved, my faithful little pair,
You sit upon my face with such remarkable flair.
You shield my precious eyeballs from the water’s salty spray,
And make each little swim feel better in every way.

I love you in the morning, I love you through the night,
I love the way you keep the blurry world in sight.
You may look rather silly, but I simply do not care,
For nothing makes me happier than goggles on my hair.

When I plunge into the water, you are waiting by my side,
A tiny little shield that lets my vision glide.
The water rushes over me, but you remain secure,
My goggles are dependable, my goggles are pure.

I love the little suction when I press you to my face,
The moment when I know that they are firmly in their place.
I pull the strap behind me, then I tighten it just right,
And suddenly the swimming pool becomes my own delight.

Without you I am helpless, I can barely see a thing,
The underwater world becomes a blurry, shapeless ring.
But with you on my forehead, everything becomes so clear,
I can stare into the water without a single fear.

Oh goggles, how I love you, more than words could ever say,
You make me feel aquatic in a very special way.
You turn me to a mermaid, a dolphin, or a queen,
The most fashionable swimmer that the pool has ever seen.

You never ask for much from me, you simply do your job,
You never cause me drama, you never make me sob.
You only ask that I remember where I put you when I’m done,
And honestly, dear goggles, that is easier said than done.

For sometimes you go missing, and I search from left to right,
I check beneath the towels and underneath the light.
I look inside my backpack, I look beside the chair,
And then I find you sitting exactly where I left you there. by @everankinn
