Hi hi! I’m Catherine, and I’ve been writing poetry since around 2017. I’ve always used it as an outlet for my emotions and processing situations that go on in my life. I really like to explore themes of enoughness, love, and transformation. I believe that our words have an ever-changing state, especially in a society that likes to twist them. Words hold a lot of power, and I am excited to share my works throughout the years!

Poetry has mainly been a hobby for me, but I really love it and find myself returning often :) so, I hope you enjoy <3

I was so excited to write this poem, so I had to share it :) I think this could have many different interpretations, but if you’re interested in mine, I wrote it based off of seeing repeated patterns of behavior and finally being fed up with it. I’ve been working through my thoughts a lot recently, and I am just so tired of being on guard all the time and always having to keep my walls up. I want to love freely without playing a social game just to succeed. Hope you enjoy :)

I can’t lie, this is a very personal poem for me. I struggle with how much worth I place onto romantic endeavors, especially when so many around me seem to be in love or found their soulmate. It makes me question my worth, my actions, how karmic it is for me to always be in these situations. But I wanted to share this. It’s one of the most raw poems I’ve written, and I know at least someone can relate to this. It’s hard to believe love will find you, but it will. Love will find me because I am full of it :)

If you’ve been around me the past two years, you’ve definitely heard me talk about this concept of having a veil over my face that distorts how I view myself. I’ve struggled with body dysmorphia for most of my life, and, more often than not, I can’t see my actual self and rather what I would want to change about myself. But there are many moments where this veil lifts and I can see the girl that everyone else does. It’s taught me to be less harsh on myself, even when what I see makes me upset.

I have never written the original date a poem was written because, most of the time, I don’t do too much editing later on, so I still date it as if I hadn’t touched it. For this one, I changed a lot of the structure and actual content, and I also don’t feel this way currently. I like the dates on my works to be like time capsules for that moment and DANG was I sooooo lost.

Ever since high school, I’ve struggled with going in and out of depressive episodes where I struggle to feel real and like I have a grasp on anything. This past semester I would find myself on auto-pilot, and it was difficult to really see myself whenever I looked in the mirror. I felt so much more alive before, which is the main focus of this poem. Almost a sort of mourning for my past self, but because it doesn’t align with my current self. Looking back, it was definitely burnout LOL I’m fine now. But Identity is something I have struggled all my life with; it is hard to see the true self when you have disdain for yourSELF. Just processing this through the beauty of poetry :)

The concept of “sun spots” is something I came up with during my freshman year of college. I used it as a gratitude exercise, especially when I was having a bad day. As the poem says, even through bad days, there are still spots of light you can find like a good morning text or the weather being warm. It helped me a lot tbh. This poem is a combination of some recent thoughts I’ve been having and that concept. I believe it’s easy to get demotivated by horrible events in our life, so the way I keep pushing is to try and see the positive in every day.

I think everyone knows about the “red string theory,” so this was just a short poem playing on that! I fully believe that everything happens for a reason, and I feel like my journey through college is an insanely large piece of evidence. With so many of my connections, there are so many coincidences and people who played roles in each other’s lives. Because I’m about to go into my senior year in college, I thought it’d be nice to post this poem! :D

I’ll be honest, I wrote this high, so it doesn’t make much grammatical sense, but this is one of my favorite poems. I honestly think the best part is that it doesn’t really make sense, but I feel it in my heart, and it makes sense there. I really wanted to encapsulate the feeling of being surrounded physically by someone you love, and how that feeling can stay long after you have seen them. When I read this poem, I think of static in my toes, my heart thumping warmly, and big arms wrapped around me :)

Felt like an appropriate time, since it’s so rainy for the next few days. I always feel bad when I see worms on the sidewalk when it rains, knowing they’ll just dry up or get stepped on later. I also wanted to play on the idea of helplessness and naivety, moving towards what feels right but finding yourself lost.
